Just ordered a Cutlass Machete, after browsing through all the machetes that cold steel offers; it was a difficult choice.

I also ordered with it an accusharp sharpener and was curious if anyone has used these to keep a good edge on the machete. The accusharp seems to get great reviews on Amazon, but I have no experience with it. I do not need a hair popping edge, but want decent sharpness in case the blade comes dull.

its one of these things: 42003d.jpg

I have an edge pro apex but have discovered large blades can be a pain to sharpen on it. I am hoping this cheapy sharpener will work to maintain a basic edge on the new machete.

EDIT:

Some pics added, it just arrived today.

A little of the black paint near the edge.

The sticker came off smoothly under the blow dryer. No residue remains but you can see the small area where it once covered. It is hard to notice unless you are looking for it.

A nice value for $30!!

The edge brand new out of the wrapper was not super sharp. The blade would not cut paper. I put the blade in my bench vise and ran the Accusharp over it about 4 times. The blade would then cut paper smoothly, so I have left it at that.

Blow drier huh, I've had mixed results with WD40... its hit and miss really.

This is a very functional design despite being classified as one of their "sword machetes".

Btw, sand off the blade, it looks hideous.

I use a Lansky puck to repair, and sharpen the edges of my machetes, hawks, bayonet, and yard tools. It works ok if you are satisfied with a regular "working edge". I just received a Lansky lawn and garden tool sharpener, stone. It seems more coarse than the puck.
