When I was in high school, back about 1980 - 1982, I remember reading about and seeing the ad's in Soldier of Fortune Magazine the first Cold Steel Tantos. They were a thing of function and beauty. The brass and the stainless steel looking great. They were all made in Japan at the time.

I'd like to see how many people would be interested in Cold Steel revising that old style. If them would I'd buy at least two of them. :D

I would like one With a leather sheath. I dislike this plastic stuff their using now. A knife and pistol belong in leather.

I agree with you the plastic sheath are pretty crappy. Cold Steel makes a great knife, but they don't put a much thought in the sheath.

I thought the Master & Magnum Tanto are still around, no brass though, and the only other change seems to be that the angle at the tanto tip transition is a little sharper than the old ones (which in my opinion makes it easier to sharpen. Other than that, the San Mai is now with VG1 in the middle rather than the Aus8. They still come with the leather sheath, and still made in Japan...although the leather sheaths could probably use a design upgrade... seems like the Magnum XII may have been discontinued, but perhaps some one could confirm that...
The plastic type sheaths work well for what the purposes of the Recon Tanto & the Kobun...being more "modern"...and then theres the Tanto Lite...great value for the money..

Master Tanto is a bit older, you can see the transition near the tip is different from the newer Magnums.

Agreed... the brass did look nice...one would have to polish it every now & then to keep the brass lookin good.. :)
Although I do prefer the steel on the guards & pommel...

I wanted one of the old CS Tanto all thru high school. Then " Red Dawn " came out I wanted one than worst then before. I've seen them on Ebay for over $250.00 +. Those guys are smoking something. The CS Tanto are great knives, but if I'm to give over $250.00 it better be a Randall Made Knife.
