I just received my Benchmade 940 a couple of days ago. This is my second benchmade knife. My previous one was a 551 Griptilian.
Initial impression was good for no blade play and I liked the feel of the handle. This is a good flipper as the blade glides with no resistance at all.
The only cons are that the handle feels small after using the grip for so long. The worst part though is that the blade was dull. It wasn't completely unusable but it took a good bit of sharpening for me to be satisfied with it.
The reverse tanto blade is s30v and will take a bit of getting used to. It feels different than I am used to with other patterns because the spine narrows and then thickens towards the point.

Overall this feels like a good knife. Fit and finish is nice except for the blade edge. I do believe it should have been much sharper for a knife of this price point.

I also have an 810 contego coming soon in cpm m4 steel. I will try and post a review of it soon when I get it.

Ha ha , sorry I couldn't resist. Too easy :o

I love my 940. It's one of the couple knives in my collection I will never, ever give up.

I fancied it up a couple months ago with carbon fiber scales, too. It really changes the feel (and look, obviously) of the knife.

I traded for an older one in 154cm. I didn't even know they came in that steel until I received mine. It was in amazing shape and it has been primary EDC since which is impressive since I'm more of a Spyderco guy. BM really has something with this design but judging by the pricing, they know it.

To me the 940 is simply the best benchmade to roll out their door. It's simply perfect, or close to perfection for me. My buddy carried one for 4 years, and he put that thing through the ringer, handles were barely green, the purple on the backspacer was gone and lots of scratches on a satin blade. I know it can withstand the test of time no doubt. I own 2 940-1's and a reg. 940, I will nver get rid of these knives...never.

Where did you get the Red standoffs? That looks awesome!

I "did" the stand offs ;) Just used my wife's ruby nail polish. They don't come in contact with anything, so they'll never chip. If I decide to change colors to, say, emerald green or blue, I can just use nail polish remover. :)

Man...the black coating on green handle looks amazing! How has that coating held up?

Just wanted to say.....if you'd like custom scales for 94x or Grips, Ryan, Death of all things, is simply amazing!!
Tons of choices, quick delivery and a stand up dude that does the right thing.
Had 2 sets made for a 940 and 943 and couldn't be happier with them!!
The red are a touch translucent......too cool!
The 943 has light gray.

I have been the proud owner of this 940 for a month now. It is a fantastic knife, which was so highly recommeneded, that I joined the club. No regrets!

The modifications and scales, so many of you have done, are impressive. Maybe someday, but for now this one will never leave my pocket.

I have gone as far as changing the clip to a silver 810 Contego type. Now to see how long it will take to wear the green around the edges for that well used look.
