This is a little OT. Actually it's very OT.

I'm trying to locate any information about an old bow I ended up with. Strictly speaking, just its AMO length so that I can fit a proper length string onto it. I attached a pic of it below.

From what I can tell it's a recurve, and a fairly used one at that. No cracks or anything though. Length from end to end is 57", and the #45 on it is the draw weight in lbs according to the seller. Unfortunately there's no AMO bow length indicated anywhere on the thing, and since it came without a string I have no clue what AMO string length is should have.

So, it's a recurve, 57" end to end. When unstringed the ends of limbs point straight forward in the direction the released arrow will fly. The only markings are straight below the handle, and basically say "Glass. Paul Bunyan 100. #45. Pat.Pend". So determining the proper string length without the AMO bow length is a little difficult.

Any crucial info I'm missing?

I would be vary wary about stringing and firing an old bow... however. This is more difficult to explain that to demonstrate. Thread the bow between the back of your right leg with the tip on your outer left foot. Use your right hand to tension the bow and get someone to hold a string between both ends. When the distance between the bow and the string is 12" get them to measure the length. That is the length of the string. When you draw a 24" arrow, you will deflect the bow 12". Incidentally a 45 lb draw bow is pretty weak, from memory, I used to draw 70 lbs English longbows when I was in an archery club in the 60s and 65 lbs teaching archery in a sports centre in the mid 70s.

A bit more research and found this which might be of help?

Step 1 : Determine Bow String Length

If you already have a string for your bow, untwist the string and measure its length. Otherwise determine the length of your bow.

For a recurve bow your string length should be about 3.5" shorter than your bow length. Hence, if you are using a 68" bow, your string length should be about 64.5". For compound bow strings and cables measure from existing ones that you wish to replace or check the manufacturers specifications, these are usually indicated on face of the lower limb near the riser.

It is advisable to add about 1/4'' to the determined string or cable length in order to allow for some twisting.
