I just recieved a batch of knife blades from Ragweed Forge, and Ragnar, being the generous Norseman that he is, had packed some "extras" in my order. One was a modern reproduction of a Viking age whetstone that hangs on a thong around your neck like a pendant. It's incredible, the stone is pretty enough your favorite lady might want to wear it, and of a fine enough grade to hone a straight razor on. Really cool, here's a pic:D :)

Very cool. Are they normal whetstone material? That one on the right almost looks like it has bands of agate running through it.

Josh, according to the description on Ragnar's website they're some type of jasper. He rates 'em somewhere between the white and black hard Arkansas stones. I've tested mine and was very pleased. It's not a stone for putting an edge on a dull knife, it's more for touch ups between sharpening on blades that need to be no kidding razor sharp. My Swedish woodcarving knives have a new friend thanks to an old one.:D

If you run a Google search for (Ragweed Forge) you will find it quickly. I have it bookmarked because I visit the site a lot. Kind of like the Himilayan home site, my dream pages. :)

every time I go to that site I see something that wasn't there before. The guy seem a little bit like Uncle Bill. working the site, ordering goods, answering emails, and packing and mailing has got to keep folks very busy. Then Blacksmithing too.
If I can I want to get one of the Viking stones. I don't much care what color it is they all look good to me. :)

"Thorshammer"

The one on the left is what hung around my neck in Afghanistan, and I still haven't taken it off. Just something about hand forged steel.

Yeah, those are nice. Good choice for a soldier, eh? I sent an aluminum one to a marine buddy when he was going off to boot camp. Wears it still.

Also have one my smith buddy made at his forge. He makes a fer styles now. Seems big rivets flatten out into a hammer shape quite nicely, and he made his first cable-damascus hammar recently. Now, if I could just get him to make me one...he insist I learn to make my own...
