i want to get a new pair of boots and these are the two Im looking at. i have had altama before but unfamiliar with otb. anyone with experience with both?

never heard of OTB, unless they're the gov contractor who puts the extra soft soles on their jungle boots - I like Altama, had a different contract manufacturer of issue boots I wore smooth one summer. (took 10 weeks)

Everybody's feet are a little different. I havent tried OTB's, but I've heard they're pretty comfortable. I dont know how they wear (durability) though. I have owned Altamas before. I didnt like them. They were comfortable for short hikes, but not for extended hikes (especially with a 15-20lb pack). I'm not trying to knock Altamas because I gave mine to a buddy and he loves them. They just arent for me. I much prefer Danner boots. My feet thank me after a good hike or hunting trip. And they're tough as nails. Although I dont think they make a "jungle" patten boot.

since the OP didn't ask about Danner, I didn't mention them - but that's my prefered weekend "go-to" boot until I can afford another pair of Matterhorn lace to toes. Mine died after 15 years and being resoled 3 times -- the leather gave way at the stitch line.

Read Jeff Randall's column in SWAT this month about how the OTB's were terrible in the jungle and he's switching back to Altama's.

That.

The bottom line according to Jeff was that the OTB boots were great/comfortable for city and light outdoors use, but if you plan on any serious use in water and mud, stick with Altamas.

I've got some of the good Altimas and they have been great. Originally, I tried various types of sandals in my kayak but it was an accident waiting to happen out of the boat. The Altimas are good for work, hunting and are excellent in the kayak.
