can anyone reccomend a double action OTF that has a lighter spring to deploy and retract. i currently have a microtech utx85, and a vipertec mini ghost and they are both a bit too hard for my wife to confidently deploy. something made for someone who is petite with smaller hands. thanks ahead for any help on this.

Did you consider Microtech's Exocet and reject it? A friend of mine took mine, hasn't returned it; so I gave it to her as a hostage for future negotiations...I mean gift. Exocet's are pretty cool.

I find all the guardian tactical OTFs easier to deploy than microtechs. Haven't tried heretic yet, so there's that.

Benchmade OTFs are easier/ smoother too, including the infidel and mini-infidel. I hear good things about hogue OTFs too.

Good luck!

Not sure what price/quality level you are after, but I have an AKC F-20 that is much easier to deploy than my Micro Tech. It's not bad for the price.

I have four OTF's. The Axial Shift and Hogue Exploit have light springs, but long travel to engage. The Brian Tighe & Friends Twist Tighe small is my favorite, not to heav. My Heretic Manticore E has a short travel, but it is VERY stiff, even after 3 years of ownership. The only one in my family that can open/close it besides me is my brother in law, who is a weight lifter. On the other hand, my mother, who is 4'11" like the Tighe the best, because even though the spring is stiffer than the Hogue and Axial, she likes the shorter travel for her little thumbs.

The new Kershaw Livewire maybe?
I also second the Exocet suggestion.

We have three CA compliant (< 2") OTFs, which, listed in order of ease of operation are:

Boker USB (very easy)
Microtech Troodon Mini (slightly less easy)
Microtech UTX-70 CA (more difficult - much stiffer action and smaller in size)

The wife fell in love, and absconded, with the Troodon Mini.

The Heretic Manticore E is my smoothest and most reliable OTF. They're way easier on my thumb than my Microtechs.

Stay away from Hogue. I bought a Compound that failed to deploy about 50% of the time, exchanged it for a different example of the same model, and that one only opened about 60% of the time. I gave up and bought a Benchmade instead.

Hilarious how an OTF has to have a “light spring” to qualify as a woman’s knife. Plenty of weak ass men can’t even operate an OTF either. Dumb thread.
That's true, but the OP is not married to a "weak assed" man. If his wife is having trouble operating his OTF knives it is perfectly reasonable to inquire about ones with easier actions.

I will 💯 back the Manticore E recommendation. It is absolutely excellent. My it’s my wife’s daily carry. She can’t deploy my Ultratech reliably.

You’re right, he’s married to a “weak ass” woman 😂 OTF knives aren’t made based on gender. One of the owners of eKnives is a woman and she opens OTFs like any man out there.

If he wants to get his wife a present, he should get her one of these:

I find the Heretic Manticore E recommendation interesting as even after 3 years mine is super stiff, and my (male) cousin struggles with it. However, it is smooth, and has seen a lot of use. It's the only OTF I've used enough to need some sharpening.

In 4 years my Hogue Exploit has never failed to fire. I don't carry it much anymore, and am selling it.
