I'm looking for a new pack, and I had originally intended to pick up a Blackhawk 3-Day Assault Pack to fit what I needed. Then I read one fairly negative review on it, and it came to my attention that Blackhawk makes gear in Korea instead of the USA... anyways, it got me looking around to other brands...

Both Eagle Industries and the Tactical Tailor make a similar pack, and I would like any experience y'all have with any of the 3 packs. They seem fairly similar, but have differences here and there.

This would be my primary travel bag, as I despise suitcases and can fit all my gear in a pack, and might take over as my light camping/hiking pack. Currently I am using a Becker Patrol Pack by Eagle Ind. for just about everything(daypack at work/travel pack/light camping/hiking pack), and while it's nice, it lacks a large main compartment, which is handy when packing clothes and the like for travel.

I'm not so much concerned with price here, or I'd go with the Blackhawk. I am looking for the best pack of this type out there, and if there is something better that I missed, please feel free to mention it. Also, if there is a place to pick these up online for a little less $$$, that would be nice to know, I have been doing all my comparisons off the company websites.

Tique,

I really like Eagle, Blackhawk and London Bridge bags. All are made great and should last a lifetime. Used TT's, no more.

My personal favorite is Blackhawk (Hence the side buisness) That's what I use at work. I have a couple of pieces that are made in Korea and the work is excellent. I've seen much worse sewing jobs done with lesser materials that were made here Stateside. IMHO, the workers over in Korea show a real pride in what they do and produce.

Blackhawk has a couple of different bags that may fit the bill for you.

I have the X3, what a great pack! It is a bit on the Large size so the others may be what you are looking for.

If you are interested, drop me a line and I'll see what kind of a "for Christmas" price I can get from the boss (read wife) for you :)

Have fun!

I have products by all three companies. All a pretty well thought out.

I too am intending on getting a new Three Day pack and have desided on Tactical Tailor. Tactical Tailor lines the inside of thier three day with a Neon colored Nylon. While this is nice for signalling if the need should arise, it makes it a dream to find items in low light. I have a Camelbak with a Neon Yellow inside and love it.

Just my opinion

If your looking for the best SOE is the way to go. Second pick would be Eagle, only because SOE doesnt have that large of a selection, however they are the best handsdown. Check out their gear and you will see the quality. A good place to look at the packs side by side is http://www.lightfighter.com/ He carrys a rather large selection of gear.

I have the Eagle AIII pack it has 2240 cubic inches of cargo capacity same as the blackhawk 3 day pack, but much much higher quality. Good pack for 2 days out might be able to streach it up to 5 if you dont need changes of clothes, or too much gear.

Well, to each their own, but I have to disagree. Having handled all the above mentioned packs I'd have to say Blackhawk, LBT and Eagle are all just about identical (again, ya'll can probably guess my preference :D). As far as SOE, I believe they don't actually make packs. From their website -- "We at Special Operations Equipment do not make packs we only do the ruck mods" but use Eagle packs that they modify - real nice gear :)

I think I'm going to go with the Eagle A-III this time. I'm going to call Lightfighter and put in an order as soon as I can get ahold of them, probably end of next week. This one just looks like it fits my needs, and is the most comfortable looking of the 3 day variety. I emailed TT with a few questions, and they didn't sound like they could get me hooked up with what I wanted, so they are out.

Dan,

I really like the X3, but it is too big for what I'm looking for. Maybe sometime in the near future I'll come up with another reason to add it to my small collection:D I can never have too many packs.

I've had the Blackhawk 3-Day Assualt pack for a few years now. I use it 5 days a week. Not one thing has broken or failed on it.

Tique,

That Eagle pack should last you darn near forever :) The X3 is a bit on the big side, I think I'm going to be picking up an X1 for everyday use.

Have fun and happy holidays!

I would say you've made an excellent choice with the Eagle pack. I have one which I have used primarily as my car BOB, but have also used it biking, hiking in the mountains, shooting prairie dogs (makes a great rifle rest!), you name it... for over 8 years, and it is as solid as the day I bought it. I don't think I'll ever need another one, but when I decide to pick up something larger, you can bet it will be from Eagle!

Eagle Industries is one of the few companies that you always feel like you got more than you paid for from the time you open the box. I also have their rifle drag bag, and people are constantly asking me where they can get one.

I know you'll love it - enjoy!

P.S. - Both the backpack and the drag bag were presents from my wife, as was my Beretta 96, Busse Steel-Heart, etc... Now THERE'S where I really hit the jackpot!:D
