Painting G10?

Hello all,

Has anyone had any luck painting G10? I have a BATAC with the blue/black G10 handle slabs and I just can't get used to them. I would prefer something a little more subdued like flat black or OD green. I was thinking of painting them, but I'm not sure how well it would hold up. Krylon has their "Fusion" brand of spray paint that is supposed to bond with plastic. Does anyone know if this would bond to G10? Is G10 a type of plastic? I contacted Krylon but they said it has not been tested on G10 so they could not verify the outcome. Does anyone have any expierence with this brand? Do you have any suggestions regarding other brands/types of paint that may work? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Krylon would be my first choice for painting, as it's the most durable cheap paint I've found. That said, it will come off on your hand. Quickly. It'll turn into a mottled mess after only a little use. So for real durability you may want to look at epoxy based stuff and stuff specifically designed for guns and gun stocks (look at Brownells or MidwayUSA) or perhaps powder-coating.

A better choice yet would be to trade your BATAC off to someone with a color you would prefer. It should be really easy to find someone with micarta willing to trade up for G-10.

how about sprayon truckbed liner???? it's very tough stuff....

G10 is a phenolic resin made with epoxy and glass. You will probably have LOTS of trouble getting anything to bind with it. Best bets are to put up a trade thread, send to the Busse shop for a rescale job, or contact Ban here on the site and have him do some new slabs for you. He will probably be able to do anything you want (depending on what micarta/g10 he has...many people HATE working with G10 because of the abrasive dust). If you look around on here you'll see that Ban (and Randucci) do fantastic work.
