This summer I might have a job at a camp and you're required to wear pants and no open toed shoes. So I was wondering if any of you know of any good light weight pants for hot weather?

Jonathan,

Any pants with Ripstop material(It allows you to breathe) will be fine, and hiking boots will do.Just remember to keep well hydrated and you will be fine in the heat. Check out any Military surplus store for those pants.

No exotic recommendations here.
I wear jeans. Period.
I am simply not comfortable in anything else.
I live in central Texas where the temperatures and humidity tend to melt even the long time residents and force them to retreat to their AC.
I know they are tough. They have all the pockets I need. They are cheap. The belt loops are large enough to handle a wide belt to accomodate 'heavy' tool sheaths. They are cotton. My wife tries to get me to wear other stuff, but as I said, I am just not comfortable.
Just my opinion.

Light-weight cotton should do fine in a summer camp situation. If the color is close to dirt, so much the better. Get a size that allows you to move around comfortably. Hope you have a good time.

Exofficio, absolutely the best warm weather active pants I have ever worn. They look good, wrinkle little, dry fast and have great pockets and they don't look military. They are pricey but you can find some of there stuff at great prices on sierratradingpost.com

try them you'll like'em.

LL Bean has some good looking lightweight khakis with some kind of fancy breathable fiber. You can also get the ones that zip off into shorts.

No real need to get fancy, get a few decent pairs of khaki or similarly light colored 100% cotton slacks to wear at a local clothing store, I actually buy most of my pants at walmart and they've been just fine. Ripstop bdu pants are great too if they're what you like to wear, just try to find light colored ones. The important thing is that they be comfortable and 100% cotton or a similarly breathable material that doesn't hold in heat.

No offense to anyone but try your best not to buy anything at Walmart , they are a bad , bad chain. I posted in a reply about the tactics used by Walmart , they deserve to go right out of business ASAP !
That being said a used pair of 60/40 BDU's will run you about $20 , cheaper than anything youll find in one of those fancy outdoors clothing places and much longer lasting. Ive had my 60/40's for going on four years now , use them hunting or fishing or 4 wheeling , working concrete , light construction , etc and they are still in great shape.

Well, I haven't bought a new pair of pants from them in 2 years if it's any consolation ;) I'm not exactly happy with the way they've been doing buisness either, but the point was that you need not find the worlds finest "outdoorsman" pants to wear to camp in warm weather. Not to say you shouldn't or anything, it's just way more important that you can get them locally and they fit well. You can't tell how a pair out of a catalog will fit and let you move comfortably unless they're a brand and cut you've already owned.

I am not against synthetic or cotton. I am just against 100% of either.

Synthetic DOES NOT breath no matter what people try and tell you.

Cotton stays wet forever and sticks to you in real hot weather.

As mentioned before a good blend of nylon/polyester and cotton is your best choice. Somewhere in the 30-40% synthetic to 60-70% cotton range is most comfortable even up to a 50-50 split. Take note of the guage of the blended material. The thickness plays a huge role in comfort. For hot conditions get the thinest blended material you can find. Canvas like thickness will not breath well.

The best, bar none hot humid weather pants I have ever worn is the Canadian military OD BDU as they are real thin breath like air, are tough as nails and dry fast. If you can find a pair snap them up pronto. The hot weather American BDU blended fabric is second choice.

Genuine Canadian BDU pants are the way to go, IMHO. They're extremely comfortable to wear in hot weather, they've got cargo pockets and they're pretty much bullet proof. They're tough yet perfectly breathable nylon mesh with cotton knitted over it. Quick drying, fire proof... silent.

You've got the "relish" digital camo that is now issue (canadians invented it, the Marines bought it afterwards ;)), but the good ole OD are still around.

Cheers,

David

Seals Action Gear has them. They're a Canadian company. They sell only new items. You can find them on the "clothing" page about 3/4 of the way down. They are pre-CADPAT and are solid OD.

The Seal's Action gear OD pants are not issue pants.

while they maybe similar (I have not used them) like the U.S. copied BDU's they are not quite the same possibly. Even so the 50/50 material should be ok.

The Canadian "Issue" combat cloth is VERY unique in its design feel and performance and not easily duplicated.

YOu can find issue pants on the net and ebay they are rare. New even rarer. I would spend the money and get new myself as you are taking a chance on used quality.

For our American friends its even harder to get a hold of. I can drive 5 mins to a surplus store here and pick up a used pair for $14.

I send 3 pairs a year down to my bud in Georgia as he is in love with them (Ex Top 82nd airborne) and wishes he had that material during his career.

The OD ones are disappearing fast because of the new CADPAT combats so snap them up unless you like the walking relish look.

Some links to issue pants online.
