For those that add a lanyard or twisty knots and lanyard bead to their knife handles where do you get your supplies? Is there a certain size cord that is an industry standard for such embellishments?

there are a bunch of places out there.

search for pictures of paracord and see what you like then go to the website and make sure it's got the number of internal strands you want and there you go.

Most I know use 550. I used it as well.

Just make sure it is true 550 paracord. There are polypropylene versions that some places sell as paracord. The nylon paracord will be more supple and easier to tie.

Also, there are versions with a fibrous core instead of strands. I bought some by accident, but when I tested it, it broke at under 400 lbs. The stranded cord I have tested, some of it went to over 600.

I remember when paracord only came in olive green and white. The first time I saw orange, I got all excited. Now there’s about a million colors.

My local Army surplus has every color. From black to neon pink. They also have the genuine issued in green and tan on a bulk roll. 1000 feet(?)

Then, they have smaller gauge of cord. Same thing with colors. From black to pink and black. Purple, blue, red, to neon green.

I found a rope manufacturer that sells "mystery boxes" of various pieces that may have a minor blemish, flaw, or not long enough to make a sellable hank. I got one of their 275 para cord boxes. Good assortment of colors and lengths. More than enough to make lanyards and handle wraps. They also have boxes of 550 cord and other sizes. They make their paracord and rope in the USA.

yup.

Used some of the 275 to make a soft shackle. Used it to lift a barrel of water (a little over 450 lbs). I was thinking it would break, but it was strong enough to lift it. Amazing stuff.

I use mostly 550, but sometimes I will use 650 and 700 pound paracord, the heavier cord makes larger knots and as others here expressed, make sure to buy 'good' paracord, I avoid those with curly type inner strands
Check this thread as it has a lot of info regarding lanyards

Official Lanyard thread

I buy mine from Amazon mostly and use WereWolves brand as well as Tough-Grid brands

This one is with some 650 lb paracord and at the top I use a whipping knot to keep the lanyard in place so it doesn't flip over into the blade area, then a diamond knot, a bead followed by 3 snake knots and a small keeper bead so the snake knots don't unravel

edited to add, here's what some 550 paracord from WereWolves company looks like, inner strands are straight and well made, as is the outer shell
