Picked up a set of Mini Monitor's V.4's today for my brother in law, got them up in Ithaca NY at Highway HiFi, it was a bit funny as I listened to some Energy's and some other book shelf Paradigm speakers but settled on the Mini Monitors for him. It's a bit of a drive from Troy PA to there, got home, went to hook them up on my receiver and looking at the back label, one was marked V.3 and the other was marked V.4...uh? So I called them up and the guy apologized and said to bring back the V.3 and he'd get the right one set aside for me on the counter, so back up, 50 mile ride one way in the rain, not pleasant but I couldn't hand over a mismatched pair of speakers to him!
Got there and the guy again said he was sorry, I had taken the ones on the floor, so no box, I guess if he wrote down the serial numbers he may have caught the mixup. The owner saw me and asked if I needed help and I said I was just stretching my legs before driving back in the rain, just exchanging a mixed up speaker, he was quite taken back and shook my hand and thanked me for coming in, then a few minutes later offered me a cd with Blues Master music on there, very nice of him to do that I thought.

SO, I took the speakers down to my brother inlaw tonight, his old Kenwood speakers bit the dust, woofer cones dry rotted out, so these are a lot smaller of course and not as much bass, but I was surprised at the amount of bass they did have. The sound was very nice, I had always heard good things about Paradigm speakers and figured I couldn't go too far wrong picking those out for him, in his price range they were just right, he has an old Denon stereo receiver.

I have Kilpsch systems but possibly may want to go back and listen to some on the same par as my RF7's but in the Paradigm line up.

BUT, of course the $$ are spent and I wouldn't get a trade in for them if I decided to change, so it's tough right now, no funds for playing!

My receiver is a Sony DA5ES with a Velodyne sub
RF7 mains
RC7 center
SB2 rears

Thanks,

Moving to G&G.

I was soooo set up to upgrade my NHT SuperOne's to the Paradigm Reference studio 20 line. but I found a better deal in a pr of Monitor Audio floorstanders, sold them to get back into monitors with a pr of Soliloquy 5.0's.
How's the cabinet craftsmanship in the Paradigm's?
You're a good bro in law, my bro in law just bought me a tandberg pre amp to play with. I traded my HT setup for an Ipod and sold off the related speakers and such. Still have a NHT VS2A center.

NHT's also sound nice, they're out of business aren't they?

But the cabinets on the mini monitors was solid, I saw some smaller book shelfs for less money but the veneer coating was peeling at the corners, I take it that that is a common thing with their line from some reviews I've read.

I'll probably not trade my Klipsch's just yet, but maybe upgrade to a better receiver, as the Sony DA5ES is great for movies, it doesn't do so well on 2 channel music, but to upgrade that, it will cost mucho bucko's no doubt!
Sunfire Ultimate Receiver has excellent reviews but also costs several thousand dollars!!

see this Link to SunFire

So it will be much much time before I pick the phone up to call them for one ;)

I've got a complete surround setup of Paradigms including Mini-Monitors for the rear channel. When I moved and decided to do the H/T room all over the only thing I didn't change was my speakers. In fact, I had three estimates for the install and none suggested new speakers.

You are a good brother-in-law!

I'm envious of you guys. A couple years back I picked up an 80's era NAD amp and a pair of AR bookshelf speakers of off ebay for a total outlay of about 200 bucks. It's amazing how much even that simple system increases my enjoyment when watching DVDs.

Good choice! I've been running a Paradigm setup for about five years now and I love it. I got my co-worker to get almost exactly the same setup as mine, and just got a friend to go with four Mini Monitors + CC-370 + PS1000 for her home theater setup.

I've got:
Paradigm Monitor 9 Fronts
Paradigm CC-350 Center
Paradigm Monitor 3 Surrounds
Paradigm Reference Servo-15 Sub
Yamaha RXV-795 Receiver

I just recently got a pair of Mini Monitor v4's for a small stereo setup too. I also did the following comparisons:
Mini vs Mon 9
Mini + Servo-15 vs Mon 9
Mini + Servo-15 vs Mon 9 + Servo-15

My conclusion is that I'm not replacing the Mon 9s in my main setup anytime soon, but the Mini's did really well in comparison anyway. They're perfect for a smaller setup.

Hope your bro-in-law enjoys them!
