this is the Paragon Sports store on Broadway in NY, not Paragon cutlery.
Just checked out their website for custom knives. You wouldnt beleive the prices-I know NY costs more but this is ridiculous!
Examples:
Elishewitz Ghost-$575
Elishewitz Phantom-$600
Crawford Mini-Wortec-$450
Crawford Mini-Casper-$625
Large Decorated Sebenza-$900
Damascus Emerson CQC6-$2700
Terzuola TTF3A(no bolsters)-$650

Are these prices high or what? All seem about at least $200 too much. I know for a fact that the Terzuola is $375 from the maker and the same price from Les Robertson or Gary Levine. And $900 for a Sebenza?

I know I dont have to buy there, it just bothers me to see stuff like this. Imagine a newbie to knives buying something there and then finding out what the real prices are. Could turn them away from knives.

Anyway, just got P.O.'d when I saw it and had to let off some steam. Thanks for listening.

I had the same reaction as you to their prices, $625.00 for a mini-Kasper and $900.00 for a large Sebenza seemed a little high. But, (at least on these two examples) if you pull up the descriptions you find the the mini-Kasper has a Damascus blade and the Sebenza has a Damascus blade and a citrine stone. Still kinda high for prices for those pieces but not the inflated, overpriced amounts that appear at first glance. BTW I am by no means trying to defend their prices, I guess they can charge more in New York if they want. You outta see some of the prices here in Hawaii!

I know Paragon Sports has a permanent "we'll match prices" sign posted near their front doors. Hehe, it would be interesting to see how they might apply that policy for custom knives.

No they are not kidding. If you know the area, then you' ll bump into quite a few celebrities, movie stars, out of town tourists, etc. Have any idea what their rent is??

Nakano, as I recall, the sign is on a wall right inside the front doors.

Funny you started this thread which I'm reading as I just got back from my local mall.
As is my habit I always stop into the Remmington Store just to look at the knives which I know for a fact are overpriced but when I saw an older SpyderCo Moran with the leather sheath their I had to do a double take on the price sticker. $160.00 yep $160.00 I couldn't believe it. I was already to get in a big arguement with the guy behind the counter when I realized it was just a kid who has nothing to do with the pricing. So I just smiled to myself and walked away shaking my head. Still thinking $160.00 how do they stay in business.

I agree Nakano that Manhattan rents are high and that alot of big money people probably shop there, just that knowing the usual prices, it kinda shocked me. I guess it shouldnt as I've worked in Manhattan for most of my adult life for the Daily News and I've seen these kind of price hikes on other goods many times.
Now that I think about it, this was the first year in about 15 years that I didnt see them have a table at the NY Custom Show in Nov. Hmmm.
Bob, you're right that the kid probably didnt have anything to do with the pricing-still burns though, doesnt it? I get the same feeling here at Ramsey Outdoor World. I was looking at their knife cases and the BM Pinnacle was $149-I wanted to whip mine out and tell them, $90 from Skylands Cutlery. But wouldnt have done any good anyway.
Guess we just have to stay educated and look out for ourselves and the ones we care about.

10- 4 Lifter. Their selection though, is quite huge, including some real exotics on display. I guess those factors are taken into consideration into their pricing.

Paragons did have a table at the past show in NY but was largely unattended by their rep. There was a sign on their table and some business cards but no knives on display! One would think it was simply an empty table, which was for all practical purposes.

High overhead is no excuse for Paragon. All their other gear is priced pretty well. But when it comes to knives, they overcharge on everything. They must think we're fools. I go to buy other gear, and to look at the knives. I wonder if anyone from Paragon is on the Forum? If you are, speak up.

I stop in Paragon every time I'm in the neighborhood, it's one of the few places in NYC you can handle custom knives in between shows. I'd have to be brain damaged to buy there, but there are people with too much money. They don't care if they overpay, they just go make more, plus they can go brag to their friends how much they spent on a knife, and their friends know even less than they do . The only thing I can say for Paragon, nice selection, it's not a major part of what they sell, and their overhead has to be huge, rent and all, and the salespeople are friendly.

"Will work 4 Knives!"

Although the selection is good, the prices are pretty much way out there. The sales guy was cool- without asking, he handed me a CQC-6 & just smiled. They must get a lot of impulse buyers who don't know about the better deals out there, or simply don't care.

I too stop in from time to time, just to see what's in the display case. I then chuckle at the prices and leave.

Hi Dave,

The thing that is amazing is not the sentiment that you and others have expressed. It is the fact, that there must be people who pay these prices.

As for me, I would love to get their customer list. A few of Paragon's customers and I could knock off early on Friday! LOL

There are a few other NYC based dealers who have pretty healthy prices on their custom knives as well. I hazard to guess that these indivduals do not give you the full price you paid on a knife towards a trade!

Dave, by the way are you going to the ECCK Show?

Les

Yup, should be at the East Coast show, Les.
I guess somebody must be buying their knives or they wouldnt still be selling them all these years. But you can bet it wont be me.
