I've seen a handful of folks using small/medium pelican cases with foam cutouts for folding knife collections. Just wondering for the people who do it, which model do you like, and what direction do you put the knives?

The ones I've seen most are putting the knife up and down so they take up less space in the pelican case. However I was thinking I might put mine in there flat, so that each knife is visible when you open the case. Would take up more space but makes finding the correct knife easier I think.

So for those of you using pelican storage, please tell me specifics and which model and how you have yours set up!!

It all depends on the size of ur collection as well as type of collection. Small folders (<3 inch), larger folders (>3.5 inch), fixed blades. They all take up different amount of space. The pelican cases are not only different in width but also thikness/height.

5 folders, 10, 20, fixed blades etc.

The bigger the collection the bigger the case.

I have seen a lotta of folks get the Pelican 1500's and they put their blades up not flat to conserve space. Besides u dont need to lay flat to know which one is which. Trust me as time goes in u will know each of ur knife by heart.

Pelican 1500 here... blades up, 27 folders of various sizes (3 rows of 9), plucked the foam myself...... LOVE IT :)

I saw a video on YouTube where the guy just orders the foam insert and not the case itself. It fit into a dresser drawer and that's how he stores them. Pretty neat especially if you don't plan on ever transporting your whole collection.

Look up "pelican case knife storage" on YouTube. You'll get a lot of good ideas for using Pelican cases.
