Pepper spray as an insect killer?

I have a severe phobia of wasps, and ran into a bunch of them at work today:mad: So i was wondering, if i had pepper spray on me, i sure as hell would have used it on them but, would the capsican in it effectively stop a wasp? or would i need to nail them with a direct hit of the foamy stuff then smash them? obviously insect killer is a better choice, however pepper spray is far more likely to be on me, if i get some.
So what do you guys think?

How many times do you encounter wasps that you are seriously considering carrying pepper spray for them?

Are you thinking about spraying a nest or individual wasps that come too close? If it's the latter I really hope you get it on video. If it's the former I would suggest leaving them alone or getting help from someone who isn't scared to death of them.

Ha, not JUST for wasps. if it were only them i would carry a can of wasp killer, thing is the pepper spray would be for protection, only for wasps as a secondary use.

Does that actually kill the wasps or just gum up their wings and make them easier to smoosh?

It gums up their wings and makes them highly flammable. It can also kill them if it gums up the airholes on either side of the thorax.

Foaming spray cleaner works great if they've landed, but hair spray knocks em right out of the air.

You cannot kill a wasp with a flyswatter unless it is extra heavy. See if you can find the ones made from flip flip sandals, they work great. Flimsy flyswatter just makes 'em mad.

What about electric flyswatters?

My dad came up with a great way to get rid of a single occasional wasp that would get into the house. He used a Sheridan pellet gun without the pellet.

Pump it up 2-3 strokes. When the wasp lands, get within a couple on inches and pull the trigger. Find body parts (if you can) for disposal.

This technique works for other insects as well. My favorite is the house fly on the screen door. If done correctly, there is no body to clean up.

One of the stupid things that my brother and I did was to get rid of a small paper wasp's nest with a squirt gun and a can of WD40. He would shoot the wasps with water as they would com to the nest. The water would wet their wings and they would fall to the ground. We used the WD40 to kill them off.

My dad thought it was pretty funny when we told him how we got rid of them. We were careful and didn't get stung.

Try Windex. Kills flies, roaches, spiders, whatever. Also, reasonably, environmentally friendly. I also use Windex as a part of my first aid kit for cuts, scrapes, etc. Here in western New Mexico we're having a 'fly' year. Lots of them and few roaches. Last year was a 'roach' year, minimal flies but roaches by the hordes. Weird but true. Anyway, Windex does the trick for both critters.

That will work, but rifle is awkward indoors, you only get one shot, and you are unlikely to shoot one out of the air.

A revolver loaded with primed cases works really well . . . if you own your own home and are in a rural area where the neighbors will not call po-lice to complain about "gunshots."

Aqua Net (or similar) hair spray is for killing wasps indoors.

LOL! :D That brings back memories.

When we were in HI a looooong time ago we entered our hotel room and I saw a spray can on the desk. At first I thought it was air freshener, then I saw that it was Raid. One of those water bugs slipped under the door and I sprayed it with the Raid. It had no effect, so I grabbed my wife's hair spray. It worked great. The bug was still alive, but it couldn't move.

Carb cleaner will also kill any bug on the spot! Instant death. Just don't breath the stuff yourself...

Carb cleaner will work great on hardwood floors, wallpaper, carpet, and upholstered furniture. A light misting of overspray will stain and a direct hit will melt stuff. Depending on what your sofa is made of it may even spontaneously combust a few hours later. Isn't chemistry fun?

I 2nd this...windex stops ants dead in there tracks as well. Really any "all purpose" cleaner.

Just about anything will stop a wasp mid air, Armorall, WD40, hairspray, bug spray, carb cleaner (laundry list of different solvent cleaners), gasoline (or any liquid fuel), and my favorite FIRE!!!

When I was around 12 years old I was over at my friends house. In the backyard there was a couple big trees and a long patio type area that was filled with old furniture (his step dad was an antique collector/ packrat).

We were running around the yard playing with water guns, he was hiding in the patio amongst the furniture, I ran in and saw a bunch of Yellow Jackets just hanging out on a beam, before I knew it they swarmed me, I got stung 5 times on the face, neck and arm. Needless to say, as I swatted them, the pheromones spread around and reinforcements showed up. I had a mild allergic reaction, and was scared more than anything. I hate wasps too.

Get a 1 qt pump spray bottle. Fill about 9/10 up with water, then the rest of the way with Dawn or some type of dish liquid.

Swirl the bottle around to mix well.

I use for the above wasps, flies, and many other insects.

From what I originally read about this simple mix is that it gets in/on breathing system, and suffocates them.

And, nothing flammable, caustic, oily, or chemical.

YMMV

I'm taking notes on this thread. I hate wasps and yellow jackets and hornets, oh my!
