My father participated in last night's episode of the History Channel's "Forged in Fire" competition series, and after he completed this sword the film crew was kind enough to let me photograph it before being shipped back to New York for testing by the judges. This is by far the largest thing I have ever photographed and it was a real challenge with that hilt being as complex as it is. It's a shame that the fate of this sword is to now just sit in some storage facility and gather dust.

Blade Material: 5160
Blade Length: 45"
Blade Cutting Length: 43"
Overall Length: 52"
Handle Material: Stabilized Madrone Burl (fluted)

Steriling Silver butt cap from an antique salt shaker, twisted pair of silver wire inlay in handle.

Was by far my favorite episode was really pulling for Peter. Is a shame if it sets in a storage room somewhere.

You and your Dad both did a Killer job with this one Cory.

That was the best show to date. That 's a very good looking sword.

I have heard of this series can anyone point me in the direction to viewing it? What network?

I was pulling for your dad as well. He made a fine sword. Love that basket hilt. Nice photo.

Damn! It is a pity they don't air the show in italy, it is a beautiful rapier and i wish i could have watched the making of it!!!!!
At least i can enjoy your amazing pictures, thank you !!!!

Thank you for the kind words and moral support. When they requested me to make a Rapier, I had never handled one or built one, so to say it was challenging is an understatement. In the time constraints involved, I had to wing it, and thought I did pretty well for a seat of the pants build. It weighed 3.3 pounds but the balance point was too far forward and that's what did me in.
I wish I could have kept that sword, I doubt there will be any more swords coming out of my shop, at least until the distasteful memory of this one subsides.

So, do they have some special plan for all the knives that were "surrendered" on the show? Or are they swag for the judges or something?

Great job! That's a beautiful sword! That's a shame they don't let you keep it! What do they do with it?

Peter,

Despite the "arbitrary" nature of the game show/reality TV overlay --- I have loved the show and especially watching such talented smith's work their craft.

Thank you for your ongoing forging.... brilliant, really, beautifully brilliant.

Hey Cory my better half and I just watched the last two episodes tonight. Very impressive especially not having made one before. Really enjoyed the episode. Hats off for creating this fine sword and for pulling off canister damascus and a knife in four hours! Good job on the photography as well.
