Hey all, hoping I could get some help with a quick comparison; sadly I'm looking to compare two relative unicorns, so I'm pretty sure only a few of you can assist.

So... I need some camp knife and competition cutter comparison pics. I have an opportunity to obtain a grail knife (a byproduct of which will be a lot of my current FBF on the flea market / exchange) and I want to make sure I've got ground truth on what I have built up in my head. Any help on this request would go a long way as I know only a few of you out there have both of these knives.

Anyways, thanks in advance and get those camp knives & CCs out!!

camp knife w/ 12" maachete...and some others..

The only two images I could find for ya man...best of luck with your quest!

The Comp Cutter is 15" long with a 5.25" long handle. The Camp knife is 12 1/4" long with a 7" blade.

Same handle size. Just different blade length & possibly thickness I suppose...camp knife looks more practical for all around use but that comp cutter is just bada$$.

Good find man -- the above pic helps a lot; I'm trying to determine if the extra few inches between the two is negligible or makes the CC impractically large for multi-day carry on the trail

One thing to remember though, as a general rule the Camp is 3/16 these days and the CC is 5/32 so the weight difference isn't going to be quite so pronounced as the size difference suggests.

Good insight mist; actually the cc in question is 3/16 tapered SFT I believe so it might be a bit heavy... But on my 50L pack it wouldn't be bad at all.

OK thats what I was thinking too. I believe you were at blade '13; that's the cc in question -- I tracked it down in a thread; wasn't an fbf knife.

I remember the knife, but not the thickness, sorry. I may have a picture of it though, I'll check my external hard drive later. If 3/16 tapered with a relatively high grind it would have amazing chopping capability.

I was thinking the same thing -- here's a pic I found; oddly it looks to be almost as long as a 12" bladed machete but I guess that makes sense.

Yep, it's just under the size of the 12" machete. I think a tapered, but not too thinly tapered 5/32, with a high grind would be impressive at chopping with less weight. I have put one of the 12" machetes through a lot of use, and the weight distribution is fantastic without carrying a lot of weight. I have been wanting a 5/32 CC for a long time, but haven't really had the funds for one when they were available. Now I'm wanting a Bishop, and see what that bad boy can do :D

Agreed I'm open to 5/32 or 3/16.. As an engineering guy I'm always of the mind more = better; I know Andy has mentioned many times that he prefers 5/32 max, but I really like his 3/16 stock, hah I guess to each his own, but I don't mind a few extra oz.!

And yes, the bishop should be awesome... I heard that there might have been a few through HT this week!

yall are crazy...i could not tell you the thickness of any of my knives

The 3/16 would probably be better for chopping in hardwood, less flex to put the handle scales under stress in repeated hard use.
