Just picked it up today and it's in mint shape with 9 blades but I can't find much info on it. Any help.

The hawk bill is the only blade without a model number

Here is another view of the 1/2 serrated hawkbill blade and a photo of the back of the blister pack it came in:

You started your collection of the 428 one step from the finish line!

That's a great score you got there and with all the blades too , way to go PCL .

Were there different colored handles, orange and green were available for the V52, for the 428 or was it black only?

just the black handle, all this was rubber banded together sitting on a shelf

I need to shop where you shop. Yes I do.

I don't believe that I've ever seen another 428 handle color, other than black. I wonder if any were made?

Have you seen Leroy's all metal Selector? They are a sight to behold.

The exchanger blades made for the 2 blade Selector have the nail nick on the "wrong" side. They don't work that well in the 1 blade Selector.

PCL, Great find...

They did make a 428 with Green OD color handles... I just got one new in the box, in a collection a few weeks ago... I will post some picutres of it on the SPS soon... :D

I hear there could be a Orange handle one two... I'm on the hunt for it...

Just emailed ITE to let him know there is an orange handle selector. In looking for the bucklite UGA knife for him today, I pulled out all my bucklites and selectors and one is orange. Will try and post picture tomorrow sometime.

There's a picture I saw that had the three handles shown, so they are out there. Was the V52 a version of the 428 or a totaly different model number. I don't think the two bladed model would suit me.

Yes, I have a orange handle, marked Selector on the right or tang stamp side. No scale impression marking on left scale. All pins SS. My clip blade is stamped 42801/. My sawblade is stamped 42835\ and my gutting blade is 42805- . I got it for lightweight carry when I was hunting in the thin air of the Rockies. My sheath is nylon, and I doubt a third blade would fit in the provided space. I never tried for another blade but a skinning blade would be attractive. If TP gets busy I will eventually post a photo tomorrow also..

Pardon me being lazy, but I think this has all been explained in past forum posting or in a BCCI newsletter article. One or the other. You researchers should be able to find it. 300Bucks

Of course and without any doubt there exists black, green and orange colored handles for the V52 Selector. This knife will hold only one blade at a time.

Regarding the 428 (which has one permanent blade and accommodates a selector blade = 2 blades @ one time) are there colored handles in green and orange?

The V52 and the 428 are two different knives. The former is a one-blader while the later is a two-blader.

Oregon, Guess I have a orange one blade handle and two blade (428) blades. But, it did what I needed when I would stumble across a half blind, nearly deaf, half crippled ole elk. Hey, that sounds like me now....300

Steve, that's what I was talking about I have a 428 with OD handles (green) and I heard of a orange handle one... Just one... with two blades...
I have the orange, Black and OD V52 Selectors... This is my first 428 Bucklite... That's what it has on the handle BUCKLITE not SELECTOR... I will try to post some pictures of mine on the SPS... Now to find a Maroon one, I wish... ITE ...

Yes, ten blades is the total Buck offering. Yes, the 428, two blade, handle model is Buck's first offering toward the V52 Selector. I have the maroon handle Bucklite. I've not seen that color offered in the Selector. DM

Here is my 428 with some additional blades I built for it. Now, all the blades lock as I redesigned the handle too. This is my favorite hunting tool and the two blade handle is very comfortable. I also, have a Selector skinner blade that is a two line stamped blade. I ask Joe H. about this and he said some were done that way. DM

Here's a photo of the non-locking blade taken out with the nail nick on the wrong side as mentioned. New trailing point blade going into handle. DM
