Hey guys. I was wondering what fees and steps are required to get a pistol permit. I know you have to go take a class, after the class do you just apply for a permit and that's all? What are the wait times? If anybody could explain the entire process from stepping out of your house to start the process to being able to legally carry, i'd really appreciate it!

Pistol permits should be able to obtain simple by filling out a questionair and info. On line, and a $5 per permit. 3 to 5 day wait, pick me up at the sheriffs department. At least that's how it is in n.c.

A concealed carry permit. Take a 8 hour course, then qualify in shooting 7 yards 5 and 3 yards. That was $100. Go to the sheriffs department, get all fingers fingerprinted, give them the certificate. Think it was $90 . Wait time is 6 to 8 weeks. Again that's in n.c.

Look up your local sheriff, they usually have info. On the site about what to do.

Contact the special permits and licenses division of the Ct State Police for the correct info.

I live in CT. I can post the link(s) once I find them. Took me about 11 weeks and a couple hundred dollars (fees, background checks, NRA course). I'd recommend you begin the process as soon as possible. Wait time depends on your town. There are pages of info on this topic posted all over the place.

Also in CT. I've been meaning to do this myself for a few years, and keep putting it off. I probably should get it while it can still be gotten.

It's my understanding that they will walk you through the process at the end of the mandatory pistol course.

In the meantime, you might enjoy getting an 03 FFL C&R license. It's easy - and fun to have old milsurp guns shipped right to your door.

It is pretty straight forwards, I have to renew mine soon which I hear is far quicker/easier. I think the total cost was around $400, for someone with no firearms experience I'd recommend a course with more range time or additional training.

Basically just sign up for a class, walk the paper work through, and visit the state and local PDs. Pretty straight forwards with a good bit of waiting (6 weeks in East Hartford when I did mine)

Make sure when you move to call to change your residence asap if you move.

Actually, permits to carry a concealed pistol should not even be required. Ain't a right if you must first gain the government's permission. Constitutional Carry is the way to go about it with more and more states now recognizing that and coming to the recognition of that. Then permits are only necessary in those states if a gun owner chooses to have one for reciprocity with other states who recognize his origin state's permit but which is not also a Constitutional Carry state.

Another asinine example --- in my jurisdiction since I'm not prohibited from owning and transporting firearms (not a felon with unrestored rights, etc.) I can legally OC by simply choosing to do so. No government permission required; however, if it begins raining and I choose to then don a raincoat, I'm then breaking the law if I didn't first gain the government's permission to CC. Totally asinine. The grass roots here is pushing for Constitutional Carry (carrying OC or CC simply by choosing to do so with no need to first gain the government's permission to do either or both). I'm sure we too will be successful in that endeavor in the not too distant future.

Regarding CT, hundreds of dollars and weeks to get the government's permission is draconian (but then so would be $25 and waiting 3 days in my book). Permits/eligibility permits to even buy a firearm are even more draconian. That doesn't even include other draconian measures like being fingerprinted, etc. Would you stand for other biometric recordings as well? --- retina scans, bone scans, DNA swabs, etc.? We need to take back our country, state by state, from overreaching government officials who are supposed to serve at our will.

That's a crock of crap. Sorry you guys have to go through all that.

In Indiana we see a handgun we want, we fill out the 4473, and if we pass we can take it with us the same day, no special LE sign off, and the only time you have a "waiting period" is if NICS delays you to further review the transaction, and that's only a maximum of 5 business days.

To get a License to Carry a Handgun (in Indiana we have a license, not a permit, and we can conceal or open carry) we have to fill out basic info online, submit it then go to our local police department to be fingerprinted and to pay the county and state. They do a background check, then sometime weeks later (hard telling how long) your license is mailed to you. No training required.

Only time LE signs off on anything for approval is for NFA items filed under an individual. A trust comes in handy in that regard, no sign off required.
