My wife didn't know food could be cooked that way.
Now she wants to try it. :)
 
Man that meat looked good. :thumbup: Nice job. I remember back when cooking on a long trip with tin foiled food on a cars engine manifold was all the rage.
 
I have seen this method used for whole animals. The benefits are that you don't need to take much care of it and it doesn't burn the fat content of the meat. The problem is that it takes a lot of time and does not compensate for small pieces. I have seen it done also pouring some water into a whole so the food gets cooked by the steam. Again, for big pieces. Sometimes they also don't even heat rocks and then put them in the hole... they just build the fire INSIDE the hole and then cover it all up with dirt before putting the food inside.
