Well so I've been looking at a ton of different knives and the most popular p'kal one i've seen in the spyderco one (i can see why it's good too :D). but i can't really dish out the $550+ to get x2 of them so I'm looking for alternatives of the style. i've pretty much searched google but the one's i'm looking at were discontinued (like the talons II :( )

i'd like it to be
-under 3 inches
-price range of around $30-60 each if possible

thanks users

Are you looking for folders or fixed? And by x2 do you mean a trainer and live blade or two live blades?

I know I got my Spyderco P'kal and P'kal trainer for around $220 for the pair brand new. They always seem to be on sale, or at least were when I was buying.

I'm currently using one of Joe Watsons Pikal fixed blades and prefer it to the Spyderco. http://jwknives.tictail.com/product/aeb-l-pikal-coyote-brushed

If your thinking the P'Kal and trainer are going to cost ~$500 you must be talking full MSRP, actual street price from an online retailer is more like $120-135 each.

However another option for you is the [no longer in production] and not wave'd Zero Tolerance 750 but there is no trainer version and they're only available secondary market for about the same as the P'Kal is new.

I'm limiting myself to one knife per month this year and I've already got my February knife but my march knife will be a P'Kal, I love everything about it, the shape, the materials, especially the lock, I also carry a dedicated SD folder so I'm not really sure why it took me this long to get one.

Welcome to BF!

Less than $50, but non-folding.

Sharpfinger is a great inexpensive fixed blade pikal.

This one, if you notice, has been reground along it's spine, though rather crudely so. Any maker here on the forum could do a much more workmanlike job in producing a matched pair. It is hard to beat that handle for grip indexing, control and retension.

Sharpfinger is a classic biker's knife.

Not sure if... well... they were made for Sturgis several years. And Nemo and Marc Animal Young produced a video featuring them. And then Sonny liked them.

And I have this one in my collection:

So maybe you are right. And in the original 1974 ad, it stated that it was for small elephants and large squirrels so there is that. :)

thanks everyone. i really do want to get that one but it's a fixed blade and I won't be able to carry that with me in public here :o

Since you're having trouble finding something that suits your needs/wants; how about rather then an actual pikal (that's slightly hawkbill'ed), you find a folder with a wharncliffe blade and neutral handle that could be used in a pikal grip.

Just a thought.

For legal reasons I've been shopping around for a usable pikal knife that isn't advertised as a fighting knife. I've started carrying a Spyderco Delica Wave. It's under three inches and has wave opening with a left hand carry clip for right handed pikal deployment. It fits me nicely in hand aside from the thumb. The tail ramps going the wrong direction for a pikal grip so your thumb really takes a beating.

I'm looking into the upcoming kershaw- emerson collaborations for more options. The CQC-3K, CQC-4K, and CQC-5K all look like possibilities. To me the wave deployments a must, but I can't find any hawk bills with the feature.

I'll wave any folder you want.
