I notice that I have a couple of older fixed-blade Bucks (a 120 and a 121) that don't have Buck stamped on the button fastener......the snap is just plain.

I don't think I've ever seen this detail discussed here, but apparently some were stamped and some weren't.

Anybody want to tell the story on this? Or.....IS there a story?

BG42, I've seen those mostly with the early Buck sheaths . Are the ones you speak from the 50's ? Joe H. showed me some from he had from the 60's that should have had "Buck" stamped on them . Perhaps e-mail him and he can help narrow down the company . My notes are incomplete on sheaths and the last time I posted what they said it was embarrassing ! So, I'll pass on it this time . DM

I think these two are from around '67 or '68.

The knives have the four dark red spacers....don't look like micarta.

Maybe Joe will check in here. It would be nice to know the story on these, if there is a story.......and learn how common or uncommon they are.

Thanks.

Bg,
If you look at the back of those sheaths, is the model number stamped ON the belt loop? Also, on the back, is there a single silver rivet with no hole in the center? I call it a "dimple rivet".
Off the wall questions I know but in the 67-68 timeframe Buck had a company called Atchison Leather making there sheaths. In 1969, the operation was brought in house.
The Atchison Leather sheaths will be as described above and have a plain snap. Your early 122/124 will be in one of their sheaths as will 110's from third Version, Variation 1 and a few Variations on.
Not a whole lot is known about sheaths so I really appreciate your asking a question that I feel relatively confident in answering! :D

Thanks, Joe. All I have that I know of right now is a 120 and a 121.

Both are stamped on the belt loop and both have that dimple rivet so they must be Atchisons.

The knives are correct for that 67-68 timeframe so the sheathes must be correct to knife.

So, looks like I have two good examples of the Atchison sheath. I assume they are not real common. Looks like real good workmanship.

Nice to know a little about them, so thanks much.

Thanks Joe . I stated this a while back during a similar discussion but my notes were not as complete as yours . I hope they don't grill you . DM
