Does anyone know which Plano case would be the equivalent to the Pelican 1600? I'm wanting to pick one up for knife storage. I like Pelican stuff but I have been more than satisfied with Plano F&F and their prices tend to be more in line with what I'm looking for.

I grabbed a Plano 108421 All weather rifle case thinking it would work, but the pluckable foam is too deep to carry the knives horizontally and the case isn't deep enough to carry them vertically, so it will just have be another rifle case.

I see a few guys running the Pelican 1600, curious to see if Plano makes one that would work also and if anyone has done it.

I'm looking for a knife storage solution as well. The closest thing to the 1600 that I've seen from Plano is the 108021 All Weather Pistol Case. It's slightly smaller than the 1600.

I'm also considering small parts storage cabinets from the hardware store. Less elegant than the Pelican cases but much cheaper.

I saw the 108021, thought it might work. Only thing that concerned me was that it looked like a 2-level pistol case (two levels of the pluck out foam). I don't imagine one level would cut it to store them vertically, so I would have to do both levels and hope it wasn't too deep.

I think that's the advantage of the Pelican 1600 is that it only has one thick level of foam because it's meant for cameras and other deep equipment.

Could you not put a spade bit in a drill and cut the foam to the depth you needed?
