Please Help Me Date this Case Knife. Tang Stamp is Confusing on this One

This is my Grandpas knife. Hes 89. So it is possible that it is really really old, but he thinks he got it from someone sometime between 1950-1980. I think it has three xxx's below the logo. I think the part that confuses me is that since its a cv and not a stainless, it doesn't exactly match the 1950-1964 tang stamp. I don't think I've ever seen an authentically pocket worn knife that was this work on the bone. He swears he hasn't ever carried it much at all. I'm assuming this is a 1961?

Nope, not 65-69. The tang stamp is COMPLETELY different on a 65-69. Under where it says case xx on this knife it just has three xxx's a 65-69 says

CASE XX
U.S.A

My knive says
CASE XX

If you still think its 65-69 tell me why.

Looks like you will be on your own then, unless you can take better pics....because the photos and you do not agree with one another.

It says USA, not XXX. Or at least it used to. 1965-1969.

It is clearly marked usa under case xx in those pics. Which makes this thread funny as hell.

Well, it doesn't. I took the pics. Like I said, it says...

CASE XX

I think you need to look through a loop or magnifying glass.
It does say Case XX
U.S.A

Some of the U.S.A is worn off, and that may be what is confusing you.

It's three xxx's ...I looked at the knife again today. The reason I am looking for help is that it doesn't match any tange stamps I see unless for some reason it has a fixed blade tang stamp or the 1960-65 stamp doesnt say stainless when it is CV. I see how it looks like it COULD say USA from the pics but it doesn't. Thanks anyway.

get a piece of paper lay it over the blade and rub a pencil lead or crayon across it so you can transfer the markings to the piece of paper - makes it easier to see what's there.

Or, for even less work, sprinkle some talc powder on there and smear it around with your finger then wipe it off, it'll fill in the voids and make it easier to read.

Sorry bud, you're incorrect. It says USA. Take better pictures. It's a 65-69. Take a bit of mineral oil on your finger and rub hard over the tang stamp. It will clean it up a bit and you'll be able to read it better.

If all the above fails, you might try a professional dating service...:D

Cool knife with a long history. Good luck trying nail it down.
