I have a new 110 blade that was left in water for an hour or so by accident. When I came back to it, the blade had some rust spots on it. I managed to get all the orange discoloring off and even the left over slightly dark stains...

What I am noticing now though is there are a about ten or twelve spots on each side of the blade where the corrosion had formed. They are each smaller than a grain of salt.

I was wondering if there is any way to get rid of these small spots without ruining the finish of the blade? Is this what is called pitting?

aza apple cider vinegar pulls rust off of carbon steel but puts a patina on stainless. Your buck is stainless. It prolly will pull it right off. Dab some on a q tip and try one spot.

If that don't work and you can get a hold of some oxalic acid crystals ,make a solution, and with the soft part of a match or very fine brush apply to rust .Not pits yet but this is how pits start.Than you can buff entire blade by hand with white rouge on leather

I seriously doubt that an hour in water (even sea water) will cause 420C to rust...Cleaning with Nevr-Dull will take an hour's "rust" off...

If it doesn't...you need a new watch...

Well to be more precise...the knife body was in water but the part that began to "rust" was actually a part of the blade that had water on it plus some dishwashing soap on it, but was not submerged like the rest of the knife. The water and soap evaporated off of this part of the blade and yes... within an hour or maybe a few minutes more, there were discolored blotches that started out as orange, rubbed away to grey stains...and then completely polished away leaving only these small flecks behind.

Maybe it was a combo of the soap and water drying? I don't really know but it was very surprising to me as well.

The funny thing is there is absolutely NOTHING on the rest of the knife that was completely submerged...only damage was that the scales had soaked up so much water that they actually grew in size so they were no longer flush with the brass...They have dried back to normal however...luckily.

By the way...If never Nevr-Dull fails to take off the rust...why would I need a new watch?

Wouldn't it be cheaper to just buy a new knife?
