I finally got my hands on one, but there is no way I can open it with one hand. It locks up super tight when trying to open it, nothing like the other SOCOMs that I have been using for the past dozen years. I understand there it a T30 tool or something to adjust it....I'm unfamiliar with this tool, not sure where to find it, and I don't want to make a mistake and damage the knife. I'm surprised Microtech lets them leave the factory like this...I've tried some REM oil and wilson slide lube, no difference. I chose to buy it because they offer it with CTS-204P steel, and I like the G10 grip. I still much prefer my older SOCOMs though....any help on getting this knife to open properly would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. If yours is a production knife it should have a either a torx or hex screw pivot. Both of those bits are available in most tool kits and at just about every hardware strore. If your pivot is too tight you can use those to loosen it like any other knife.
2. In my experience with a socom elite that has a good strong detent you need to push up on the thumb stud with the pad of your thumb rather than trying to push it to the side or trying to push/flick it with your thumb nail.

Those two pieces of advice should help you. A number of knife makers ship knives tight pivots and if the issue is a good strong detent then you know that you have a knife that will be safe in your pocket.

Thanks for the help guys. I thought the T30 was one of Microtechs own tools. I've been using SOCOMs as EDC for a VERY long time. I'm off to go find a T30. Again, thank you. (MT should have sent one in the box for the prices they ask for, IMHO.)

IIRC one of the first batches shipped with detents that were far too strong. The dealer I bought mine from sent a few back because of this. This has since been corrected, mine and all the others I've handled lately have been fine.

its funny. In Canada you have to deal with this EVERY time you get a new folding knife. Companies don't want customs inspections to think that they're shipping "switchblades" so they crank down on the blade pivot.
you just need a torx set man.

I got the torx set, and I loosened it up. No difference. I even loosened it to the point where I could use my fingers to tighten it, nothing. I applied more REM oil and than some Wilson slide lube...and I still can't get the thing to open. I'm really upset about this...I can return it for another, but I really don't want to because mine is CTS and not S35. All the Deltas now are S35. Any other suggestions? If I send it to MT, will they FIX it...or will they simply send me a replacement (that could possibly be S35)? Thoughts? Thanks!!

Harry

Called MT, said they would fix it for me free of charge...just pay return shipping. This will be the second time I'm sending a Delta back...the first one was returned because it S35 and not CTS like I was told, and not this one that I can't open. I couldn't even open the first one they sent me. ETA is 4-6 weeks! ARGH! I'm sticking with my old school SOCOMs....this sucks.

I'm guessing maybe this is a knife like the Umnumzaan and the ZT 560 where you have to push upwards instead of to the side. Some people find it impossible to open a 560 with the thumb studs. I can do it very easily because I know how, but if I try to do it the normal way, I can't. Try pushing upwards, parallel with the blade, with quite a bit of pressure and it should shoot out. Also, try not to squeeze the lockbar either. That will just make the detent harder the harder you squeeze.

Like I said, the detents on the initial shipment of these were far too strong. It has been fixed on the latest ones. Every new model of everything always has bugs.

Yeah, this is true. Thing is, I don't want the knife in S35 steel, I want it in CTS204P....and from what my dealer told me, they only ran 100 of them in CTS204P. So, instead of just having my dealer give me a new one (in S35), I'm going to have MT repair it. Been poking around, and I'm not the only one with this problem. I've carried my SOCOM for 12 years, I guess carrying it for another 4-6 weeks won't kill me...I just hope MT doesn't mess up and send me something else or take 4-6 months instead of weeks. Been waiting for the new SOCOM delta for a loooong time.

A.Dragg....I hear what you are saying, but it is still too hard to open. I've tried everything...

Let us know how your customer service experience with Microtech goes.
I will....they used to be prompt and very helpful, I'm still waiting for my return # for the Delta. Hope they have their act together as many complain all the time. Ugh....

Mind if I ask how you would compare the older SOCOMs to your new Delta? Blade looks thinner on the Delta, and I actually think I get a better grip with the rubber handles over the G10s.

Sounds like you have a bit of a problem there... I have one of the early runs and it opens very easily indeed, a bit TOO easily if you ask me. I adjusted the pivot to make it tighter and it moved the lockbar to the left quite a bit. Not enough engagement for me so I left it as it was. There are bearings in the pivot so maybe that's where the problem is?

LOL, we have the opposite problem. I sent her to MT the other day, I was very specific and told them what I wanted and not to make it too lose. Too easy is bad/dangerous, just as too hard is. Has to be just right. Hope they do a good job...

Good luck with it... let us know what the result is. MT have had a bad rep re: CS for some time, it would be great to know if they are finally getting their act together.

Anybody still getting these worked on? I have one in cts204p, I sent mine in LAST YEAR due to the detent being way too strong when you pushed the lock bar toward the blade with not much pressure it would "click in" to the detent hole on the blade and get stuck and you'd have to pry it back away from the blade before the knife would open even with 2 hands. The detent gets "clicked in" just while it's riding in my pocket so this was very frustrating.. They have had my knife since October 20th 2014 and I have emailed multiple times and have been given no updates at all. They just tell me they are very busy and they will let me know when it's done. Any body else experiencing this?

Hey folks the Pivot is NOT the problem. It sticks in the resting Position. Once it Is Pulled Out of the resting Position it flips easily. Getting it Pryed out of the resting Position However is Near Impossible with the thumb. The knife is Beautiful But the Deployment is Rediculous. Where Microtech' s head was at When they made them this way is Beyond Practical Sense. I am Returning Mine!
