Hey guys, how are things? Haven't been here in a while, as it really is a full time job managing a youtube channel (you have NO idea!).

Anyway...good news. Got the news this morning that I am cleared to take off work so I can go cover SHOT show. I already have passes (provided by another knife company *cough*) and lodging. Now I am just touching base with the people I want to talk to.

Ka-Bar/Becker is a MUST DO. My viewers demand it. The Becker BK7 IS the flagship knife of Preparedmind101, and I have sold TONS of them. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to do a video with Ethan. It would be super interesting, as I would want to talk to him from the standpoint of the viewer already being familiar with Becker. It pains me to see video after video making Ethan repeat the same old information over and over. It pained me even more to recently see another youtube channel talk to him and the guy OBVIOUSLY knew absolutely nothing about Becker (which is just one of many points that make me suspicious about that channel). Explain to me how anyone can be a "survival guy" and not know what a BK11 is??

I am bringing the girls (Jessica 1 and 2) to meet their maker too, LOL. Maybe Becky too...she is in the shop right now about to get a new custom Molyresin coating.

I might be there on the generosity of another company, but I HAVE to cover Becker. It is the single most mentioned and recommended knife brand on my channel, and if I didn't people would be like "WTF?"I know a LOT of people have contacted Ka-Bar to work with my channel before, and gotten no response, but I'm more concerned with BECKER. I'll recommend Becker whether Ka-Bar works with me or not. They are missing out though...my viewers buy a lot of knives!

Hope to see some of you there! Would be great to get the guys on the channel. The subs are picking up. I'm over 15,000 now and gaining 1000 subs a week.

Now...a question. I had a viewer I've known for a long time tell me it was reported on BCUSA that a few people had BK9s break under light use conditions. I find that hard to believe, but I'm curious. Is that true? Has anything changed in the manufacturing process? MY BK9 has withstood EXTREME use.

I think most of these were Camillus era, but I might be wrong. I KNOW however that Kabar has said that they are reviewing some things to make sure that KaBar QC is spot on.

Recently there was a BCUSA thread that someone linked too where a guy broke a Ka-Bar BK9, and older stamped one. Ethan weighed in and got it taken care of. He was batoning decent chunks of wood though IIRC. He said he was pretty surprised but I wouldn't consider it "light use".

Thats what happens when stuff goes through the grapevine....probably passed on by fans of other brands.

Yea there was a recent incident of stamped 9 breaking, the guy was cool about it, he understands sh*t happens. In my eyes the laser etching has most likely solved that issue...Ethan contacted him personally about it, the fact that he goes out of his way to do things like that is a big reason I'm a BH. Ethan doesn't owe any of us anything and yet he goes out of his way to reach out like that. Why? I don't know, but you have to respect a man who stands behind his product to that degree, literally every single blade...... Who hooked you with SS passes CS? If you'd rather not say it's cool, just curious...anyway here's a link to the thread about the busted 9...keep up the good work on yt.

I think I know who it was based on some of his recent vids. I would think the company would want people to know they sent Reviewer X to shot show but I'll hold back just in case or in case I'm wrong.

Ahhh I see thx dude

I would love to see you interview Ethan. I bet the interview will be more entertaining than most of them I have seen on youtube.

I would like to hear about some of the knives that didn't make it. Knives that Ethan drew up that for some reason or another never made it to production or even made it off of the design table and why. Not sure if he is willing to be that candid or not but I think it would be interesting.

Hey Chris, Love the channel. I got a YT just to sub yours and another fellow BH (#191, Jonny1280). Great stuff Chris, keep it up!!

There have been a few breakages of the 9 in the last year that I am aware of. 1 is from the thread linked above which was a Kabar (stamped), and the other 2 were Cammillus era blades broken out at BeckerWest. See below

Have fun at SS! Look forward to the vids.
By the way, I'm guessing CS got you hooked up considering the big box o porn they sent ya. LOL

I don't care... It was Russell Taylor, VP of Schrade. I gotta give them credit, they take criticism well. One of their knives was made of crap 440, and I broke it without even trying. I told them in no way is that OK, and within 48 hours they switched the steel in the production of that model. They have a lot of decent stuff, and a lot of stuff I would never use. The good ones make it on the channel.

That, and they don't upset about me pointing out the stuff that needs work, or that I bring up Jessica (including the big animated "Jessica the BK7" intro ) in a video about their knife. They don't pressure me to "paint it in a good light".

Should be Ka-Bar. The symbol for my channel is a skull with crossed BK7s. I'll win them over eventually once they figure out how many Becker dollars are coming out of my promoting them constantly for a year.

My friends store has been getting orders for BK7s with custom duracoating a lot.

Here is the most recent one:

Cold Steel hasn't given me anything and I doubt they will. I've been 50/50 on good reviews and raking them over the coals.

Oh damn, my bad. Sorry about that, I meant Schrade. Dang, and I just watched the Survival Tactics vid of one of them getting sharpened, along with Becky.

He sharpened all my knives the other day. The Beckers have never been sharper. I have no doubt I could take a hand off with Jessica 1 or 2... With Becky I would just have to point it at something and it will slice itself out of fear.

I love my 7s and 9. Can't wait for the big reveal on the BK9 makeover. All I need is someone to make me custom carbon fiber Becker handles with tritium inserts....

That's some wicked sharp steel. The Carbon fiber scales sound like a sweet option. Spendy I'm sure, but probably worth every dang penny. Hey, if you need a b..ch to carry boxes for you, or gopher some coffee, I can do that for you. ;)

Congrats on the trip, CT! You've got to hit up the Ka-Bar booth to give us the dirt on Becker and the new Ka-Bar Snody collaborations.

Congrats on the sponsor, even if it wasn't Ka-Bar. PM101 was only the second channel I've subscribed to. I like your attitude, and that you're not all about one way of doing things. I hope you do get a chance to sit down with Ethan...he seems like such a great guy, and not only in taking care of BK&T owners. I like Dresnor's ideas about what might not be in the lineup and why.... I'd also be curious what it is Ethan believes makes certain blades of his so well-loved. I also think you got a nice sponsor with Schrade; judging from your videos they make some pretty high value cutlery, and if they're willing to listen to and (more importantly) respond to criticism, then good for you and them. Have fun at SS (like you need me to tell you)!

I just want to know if you have to "book" time to do a video or just try and elbow your way in. Ka-bar-Becker (mainly Becker) is really high on the subscriber "want" list.

I've never been to any of those types of events but I'll wager it's a little bit of both. Prior coordination with a little bit of down time. You know Ethan is approachable and would answer that question. Maybe try to PM him if you haven't already?

Good luck with that one....his PM box is always full. Prolly just look up his phone he graciously left on another thread and leave him a message....
