Pocket Clip VS No Pocket Clip

i dont like my knives rattling around in my pocket, so all my carry folders have clips. i had a wh that came with a pouch that had a clip, but never carried it.

i do have a fujisaka folder w/o clip that also came with a pouch, rarely carried.

also cause when i reach for a knife i want to know exactly where it is, every time.

As stated above, ease of carry. With a clip the knife is always where you put it. Also if I have it at the bottom of your pocket it tends to slide down into a horizontal position.

I like the clip of the Al-Mar SERE 2000 very much. I hate clips which let the knife stick out of your pocket.

Unlike most of the posters here, I tend to prefer my knives without pocket clips. For instance, the clip on my mini grip tends to bite into my hand and completely ruin the ergos on an otherwise magnificent knife.

I agree about the ease of carry but for me a clip on a knife is like a stone in a shoe.

dantzk.

I'm with these guys. I prefer no clip mainly because they are so much more comfortable to grip without the clip. Another reason is that I just don't trust them. I've had a few knives that had clips that began to bend outwards, and on a few occasions, caused the knife to fall out of my pocket.

I used pocket clips for many years, but for the last few months I've been going clipless. Small folders usually get carried in the fob pocket of my jeans and large folders (or small fixed blades) are on a belt sheath.

Some clips can really tear up your pockets over time. I also hate it when you lean into something and the clip scrapes against it. The worst is when you accidently "key" some paint off your car with the pocket clip.

A pet peeve of mine is when makers fail to incorporate the design of the pocket clip into the overall design of the knife (which happens a lot). That can leave you with a knife that's uncomfortable to hold and/or difficult to carry.

I understand why people don't like the pocket clip, but I leave mine on.

Even when the pocket knife is going in a belt sheath, which it often does at work.

I end up carrying so much junk around in my pockets that there isn't room to not have a clip on my pocketknife. It's either that, wear a fannypack or carry a Murse.

And nobody wants to see that. :)

Ditto on carrying too much stuff. While I sometimes carry knives without pocket clips, most of the knives I EDC have pocket clips. None of the clips on my knives get in the way when I am using them.

Sometimes I use a belt sheath for my folders without clips. But with a cell phone and a knife in a sheath on my belt I begin to look and feel like Batman.

My bone to pick with pocket clips is when using the knife some of them are brutal to get a grip on the knife the BM Snody 420 is one of them, I had to take the pocket clip off just to make the knife usable.

It looks like BM put the same clip on the Rukus, not good.

Other than that having a clip on a knife for carry is totally personal. If use the clip for pocket carry the knife is exposed for people to see. A reason to remove clip and carry in pocket the knife cannot be seen.

What about the new boker knife with the retracting clip? Best of both worlds. Open - no clip, closed - clip!

Many of the higher end folders have removable pocket clips so you can have it either way. Personally, I've been carrying pocket knives from before the invention of the pocket clip (Spyderco, 1970's) and I still don't use them.

I just resurrected my CR Mnandi last night for EDC. I usually carry my EDC pocket knife in a pouch, in my right pocket. As I was fishing around for it this morning the thought struck me that if I clipped it to my shirt pocket, it would be much more accessible. I was right. I'll try this for awhile I guess! ;)

Pocket clips are evil!

I use pouches or just drop the knife into my pocket.

Pocket clips wear out pant pockets, scratch anything you come close to and ruins an otherwise well thought out and designed handle/ grip feel.

Good man!

I'm the same way.

One bad thing about pocket clips is that I always hit stuff with it (chairs, door frames, etc. (it's funny how many things you touch and don't know about it until you wear knife clipped on pocket :))). The knife just sticks on the edge of pocket and therefore it is more prone to such things. (these clip screws were painted black)

However I still wear my knives cliped, because it prevents you from losing the knife and that outweighs scratched clip or knife body.

clipped

easy and fast draw and replace, secure and always the same position.

more comfy as well.
