I'm heading for Scotland in a few, for a few days. Are pocket knives allowed there? Anything I need to know?
Thanks!

You might be better asking at BritishBlades.com. (I suspect the answer is a general rule of non-locking only and under 3" blades.)

There are some general differences between Scotish and English law, but I'm pretty certain it is as Thomas says a sub 3" slipjoint, unless you have good reason to being using something longer and/or with a lock.

Probably pay to head on over to Britishblades.com as I know there are a couple Scotish bobbies that could give you a definitive answer and advice.

Hope your trip goes well :)

William Wallace carried a pretty large claymore, so I'd think just about any sort of blade is okay over there.

I was in Scotland (Aberdeen) about 2 years ago for a couple weeks. I carried my Griptilian, and no one bothered me about it. In retrospect this might have been dangerously against the law there, but I was pretty discreet about using it.

I might be a little late with this post, but ther British Knife Collectors Guild site does have some useful information.

I'm from the UK myself and from memory, since 1988 any carried blade must be 3" or less as long as its capable of folding (no fixed blades, unless your fishing, hunting or something to that effect). Automatic and butterfly knives are a no no. Knives with locking mechanisms... are a gray area, what is defined as a lock knife to one officer is not to another... I have heard of one extreem case where a leatherman was confiscated as it had a locking blade (I believe this tool was returned to the individual once reports etc were filed)

But unless your in London, Police Offices don't legal right of stop and search unless they have probable cause.

Anyway enough of my rambling. Hope someone finds it useful.
