Yes or no, does Spyderco G-10 destroy pockets? I mostly wear dress pants and khakis for work, so ripped pockets aren't a badge of courage for me. I'm assuming there's a spectrum of possibilities based on how many times per day one uses their knife, or how the knife/clip exits the pocket. Just wondering, because I'm about to dump decent coin on a PM2, but don't want to get it if my clothes are going to prematurely get torn up.

Just in and out of the pocket it will wear eventually.
Just plain physics of friction and clip spring tension.
Some are worse than others though but depends on personal taste of clip retention and other factors.

Conceptually: yes. Eventually you'll see the wear. But I've been using the standard Spyderco G10 daily for years and the rest of the pants wear out before the "pocket wear" shows. That's been my experience, anyway.

Thanks, good to know. It's not something that I really thought about until I saw some recent pictures of serious wear.

Right. And I suppose the most friction is contingent on the force and speed someone uses to pull the knife out from their pants pocket.

I'm sure that's a factor... and now that you mention it, I bet an Emmerson design is probably a completely different question. I don't own any so I can't comment on it, but I bet it's a factor too.

I think you'll notice the wear over time. I would suggest smoother scales like the laminate cf used in the Bradley 2 or Chaparral.

the g10 causing rips? nope.
even though it may add bulk
its better to place folders
inside of a sleeved pocket sheath.
it smoothens out the knife's surface area
and to some extend lessens any protruding
knife parts from digging into the pocket.
also before purchasing pants.
do check that the pockets
are not made from some thin
synthetic pocketing fabrics.
natural fibre would be better.

This is what and how I carry in my motorcycle chest pocket.

I have a couple of these things, Kydex and leather, and cut differently, also to carry longer knives (Military, Police. etc) in my jeans pocket, keeping them upright and invisible (California). Not pretty but very functional and comfortable (well, the leather ones at least).

I edc a delica and a millie mostly and only see wear on a certain pair of jeans. I think it’s the acid wash or whatever they used to distress the fabric.

IME the G10 isn’t all that “frictiony” :D on the fabric. If you’re really concerned you might wanna go with a smooth titanium or better yet, pakkawood sprint. More money of course.

Stay away from frn. It gives the best grip but is worst for clothing IMO.
