Hi there!

Some time ago I realized that after selling my two old tactical knives I need to find some good military folder to my collection and for some hard tasks.

So here it is - the Pohl Force Mike Four Outdoor tactical military EDC folding knife. :)

The knife was designed by Dietmar Pohl - a talented and experienced German designer who formed his own company Pohl Force Knives in December 2008. In Dietmar's biography you can read that most of his designs are intended for police service and military use but hard outdoor and recreational use he also takes into account.

In 2012 the Pohl Force established close cooperation with the LionSteel company based in Italian "city of knives" Maniago to achieve the highest quality. In that way the Euro Ops Division brand was born and the Foxtrott has become the first EOD folder. The Mike Four is a successor of the Mike One (and Two) which was designed as easier to carry knife than the large Foxtrott. With its size the Mike Four is in the middle of the line of the Pohl Force knives thus it becomes very versatile and ergonomic.

Satin finished the 4 mm thick blade is made of a very good Niolox stainless steel and is suitable for the hard outdoor tasks like wood processing etc. The flat grind is perfectly symmetrical at both sides. The cutting edge is factory sharpened to a level of shaving hairs from hands. The modified tanto blade with an agressive but very interesting look has a length of 95 mm and opens up smoothly by a thumb disc. The lock is very strong and there isn't any blade play whatsoever. But if you'll ever need to adjust the pivot in the outdoors you can do it even with a coin. The knife overall length is 220 mm.

The handle is made of two pieces of 'hard coat' anodized aluminum and thanks to that the knife feels solid in your hand but very lightweight at the same time. A textured surface gives very good grip. The knife can be handled in two positions. I especially like the position with my thumb placed on the ramp and my index finger placed just before the cutting edge. This allows for precise blade control.

The Frame Lock locking system was improved and it has an additional steel insert which gives a safe and rock-solid lock. This steel insert thanks to its protruding part placed under the frame protects the Frame Lock additionaly against an excessive opening when you release the lock.

A hole is inside a pivot and together with a second redesigned hole at the end of the handle you can use them to interlace a cord for a hand security improvement during the hard work. In survival situation you can also use these two holes to firmly fasten the knife on a wooden stick and make some kind of a spear. ;) But it is not a joke. During my lonely outdoor adventures in the wild places like this below, I came across the brown bears and the pack of wolves three times already.

Stainless steel deep carry pocket clip with a black coating is at the end of the knife handle, what makes the Mike Four great for EDC - every day carry. The clip is reversible and screwed to the end of the handle by an integrated tungsten carbide glass breaker. A paracord lanyard with metal skull helps to deploy the knife from the pocket. The knife comes in a useful EOD black collectors pouch together with an EOD 3d patch and a certificate.

In summary I can definitely say that the Pohl Force Mike Four is very impressive. The knife is suitable for police service and military use indeed, it can be used in the outdoors, it fits well also as the EDC knife. The fit and finish are perfect. The blade is centered, the handle has very good grip, the lock is very strong, and the tactical look is complemented by many cool gadgets together with the very good and useful design.

Thank you Dietmar for your great work!

Great review, with fantastic images! Interesting that it has taken the industry so long to come up with an aluminium framelock...

Looks like a really nice piece. What other blade profiles do they offer, I'm not the biggest fan of tantos.

PS I'm glad to hear bears and wolves have become so common in Poland, you must be doing something right!

Thanks guys!

Pohl Force Mike Three with the spearpoint blade is a new model also.

They are protected by the law. Most of them lives in the Polish mountains (Tatry, Bieszczady), but most people cannot meet them because, as a tourists they traveling during the day.
My photographic trips are often by night to catch the proper light, so "I am lucky" to meet some wild animals...

I really, really like this folder. I've been wondering which model Pohl Force to get, this looks very cool.

Hi! Great pictures, really and very nice knife . Pohl Force new Alpha series are very interesting. Good steel, usual very good fit & finish and surprise, surprise, they came back with a liner lock . For outdoors (hiking/camping) tasks the tanto blade profile it’s not my favorite but it comes handy in few EDC things instead.

Here also, in the mountains, wolves and bears are coming back in numbers. Not because humans are taking their territories, rather the opposite! Growers and farmers are long gone from the mountains and the forests are growing back at an incredible pace and with them wolves, bears, wild boars, deer, etc. are thriving. Bear and wolves, though still protected species, are becoming a problem again, like in the past century, killing cattle and scaring the hikers from time to time. It’s rather amazing in fact :).

Great to hear your wildlife is doing so well.... I'm sure it makes hiking considerably more interesting. :)

I just wanted to say these guys do a fantastic job of packaging and presenting their knives. That pouch, lanyard and bead are all great touches!

Great review, fantastic pictures!

I am playing with the thought to buy a Mike One. A little bit pricey for me, and has to thick blade (5 mm!) for my taste. The Mike Three/Four has 1 mm thinner blade than the Mike one and is 20 grams lighter.

True, this new model is cheaper and thinner, exactly what i want from a folder like this. Now i have to choose beetwen this knive (or the three version) or the november one version, same look , different purpose... Anyone have pros / cons about it?
