It's the small, dished out relief on the rear of the lockbar. It was developed to reduce unintentional unlocking while gripping the handle hard.

Boyle detent. The semicircular cut out on where you press the lockbar to disengage the blade.

The dent was added for safety when we learned that the Native and Police could be accidentally unlocked with the fleshy part of you hand when squeezed. When we made the Native 5, we made the lock well smaller which eliminated that problem. On the Police 4, we shrunk up the lock well like the Native 5.
