Polished Blade Question

Hello all, I'm new here and very happy to be here.

One HI blade at home, one in mail, another on order soon.

Quick question... are well-polished blades a bit more rust resistant than rougher blades? Maybe the "pores" are smaller, or something like that? I ask, because the blade on my Tarwar causes water, oil, just about everything to bead up like water on a duck's back. I'm just amazed at how cool it is that even oil beads up on the surface... even after I've scrubbed it clean. I've not seen that on metal before.

I know nothing about metals and such, sorry for the newbie question. I'm asking largely because I have another work horse of a blade, that rusts easily. It has an un-polished metal finish. I though that maybe if I polished the heck out of it, it may help.

Thanks!
Brad

Yes, a blade that has a higher polish will be less porous and will rust slower. Beading of oil could be caused by putting to much on which can harm the scabbard.

Oooh.. too much oil.. that makes sense. Thank you, I'll wipe it down right away!
