Maybe this fits here better than the last place I tried to post on this forum... I wanted a light, one-hand operation flip utility knife to carry at work and found the Milwaukee fastback to be a great knife. I shortened, sanded and polished mine to be a little more pleasant to look at and hold. I've since done this to a few other knives.

I like it a lot, I love the fastbacks, was just looking at them the other day. I have a hawkbill and have been considering the utility knife as well.

Way to go ! ! !
I like it.
Nothing like a box knife to actually cut / open the sides of a box.
Who knew ?
I'm obsessed with the Gerber EAB but not in the same class as your nice Milwaukee.
I could do with out the lock stick of the EAB and when I put my favorite blade in it, the Stanley classic 0.4mm thick, I have to mod the blade a tad. I sharpen so it is rare I replace it.

I wonder how the thin Stanley classic blade would fit in the Fastback ?
hmmmmmm

I'm converting one to automatic.

I was trying to figure out a way to do that on mine as well... the pivot surface on the bushings (which are odd size, was not able to find phosphor bronze that fit... they are .180 id or something) is small and doesn't allow a lot of room for a coil spring. Be sure to post pictures if you are able to make it work. I think a spring assist would probably be easier.

Simply put a leaf spring in the blade well.
All automatics don't use coil springs.

I saw these last time I was at Home Depot... I'm really surprised they haven't been called out as gravity knives yet.

We can use spring assist where I live so I don't think gravity knives are a problem either way. Knife laws are pretty stupid regardless, when someone can just carry around a kitchen knife if they really want to... which would be a far more effective "weapon."

Was looking at the Fastback. But my trusty Stanley is still going strong. I'll grab a Fastback one day...

The version 2 is my favorite. Enough storage for 2 spare blades but a little more ergonomic than the fastback 3.
