Pool Cues; Muecci or McDermott?

Thinking about buying a fairly good pool cue, and have narrowed the choices down to either Muecci or McDermott. Anybody have any preferences? Any reasons why to choose one over the other?

Personally, I prefer Meucci. I think they have a more precise feel and a more stable hit. Although, it can vary from cue to cue, especially if you run sccross a used one in good condition, (either Co.). My suggestion is to shoot with both and several different models and weights until you find which is exactly right.

I had a McDermott for awhile. Used it like crazy when I was in Korea, finally sold it a few years ago, cause I never used it anymore. My pool "mentor" carried a Meucci(I think). Mine was nice, his was sweet!! But about 6 times as much as mine. :) Don't forget to buy a good case for it, why buy a $300 cue and put it in a $10.00 flimsy case?? Good luck, and let us know what ya decide on.

Have you ever thought about a Viking? I mean, of the two that you mentioned, I would probably recommend McDermott because they seem to have consistent production and really good feel to them. I personally use a Viking, and I've never had any problems with it. I would second ROM's suggestion of trying out several models in different weights. Not all 20 oz cues feel the same. I know I had to go through a period of readjustment when I bought my cue. Just my .02, take it for what it is. I hope you enjoy your purchase though, Billiards are a VERY rewarding activity.

I finally made my mind up and ordered a Meucci Power Piston-03 with the new black dot shaft. Here is a picture of the cue I ordered. It should get here Friday; just in time for the weekend! Gonna try it out right away.

Yeah, it cost more than I planned on spending, but what the heck. I did, however, spring for a decent hard case though. Like somebody mentioned, why spend that much money and stick it in a cheapo case?

I'd definitely go with McDermott over Meucci. Meuccis always seem too light no matter what the weight is--I know that's not possible but that's always what I've thought of them. And I've had my McDermott for years (close to a decade now) and no complaints at all. Of course I've always had an eye for Schon cues as well--just could never afford the ones I wanted.

I really wish I could play more often...:(

the wood on wood contact that mcd offers because of no metal joint makes it hit very solid ive had one of those and ive had meucci joss and players ive shot pool and ive shot pool lol so much i cant even remeber all the times that ive lost LOL ive lost more than most people have played period i guess its the people ive played with but id have to go with meucci i have one and its a sneeky pete hits very soild but rember its all in the tip the shape and the scuff dont know if im telling you something you dont know but if i am sorry ive played with guys so good they could beat me with a broken tree branch lol having a meucci is like having say in knife terms would be say like having a emerson and having a mcd would be like having a benchmade where a balabushka would be like having a sebenza lol i know i spelled balabushka wrong lol pool cues are like knives they are status symbols you cant go wrong with either i started out with a players and you could say compare that with crkt knives for value and quality and something else dont leave em in your car or your trunk lol they will come out look like boomerangs lol but when its comes down to it having an out of shape tip is like having a dull knife gotta make sure it holds chalk and its rounded proper for the best english like i said if im telling ya stuff ya know sorry lol :)

damn nice cue dan ive had 2 meuccis the gambler and the
sneaky pete i have now nice choice man

Danbo,

Good looking cue.

I shot with a McDermott for about 15 years and liked it a lot.

Then I bought a Predator 99-5 (10 piece shaft) about 2 years ago and can't say enough good about it.

You may want to check out the 314 shaft some time. :)

Sorry, the size got away from me.

I would try to get one to try out for awhile. I have an old McDermott sneaky pete that I think is no longer produced and plays nicely. I have a Joss cue that I highly recommend.
I've played very little pool with a meucci. It seems to be a love it or hate it brand. I can't criticize it, but I've always wondered what good it does to wrap a handle and then coat it so that the wrap isn't felt. It does stay a lot nicer looking that way, but you don't have that same feel. Meucci makes many beautiful cues, there is no denying it.

Also recommend the predator shafts. They sell a cosmetic second that can save you some money.

All this from a stay at home poolplayer.

Nice lookin' stick Danbo! I'm a little surprised that you didn't try making your own though. Way back in High School (1963 or there abouts) I started to make one in wood shop-a nice 2 part stick! I was doing fine on the lathe until the shop teacher asked me what I was making! I kept telling him "I'm making some table legs". He finally realized there was no table for these legs & told me that was the end of the project. I took what I had finished & worked on it at home. Finally got it completely done, tried it out, made a few refinements & shot some pretty good pool! Never the envy of my friends but I liked the look & feel. If I remember correctly it was made from ash. It's long gone now & so is my pool playing.
Again, Danbo, beautiful cue. Enjoy it and 'shoot' well!

Well, I've had this Meucci cue for a couple of weeks and I thought I'd relate some experiences so far. The thing just comes to life in my hands! This cue is a 20 oz model, as I tend to like a little heavier cue. I went to play for an hour or so last night with my teenage Son; and the first rack, my Son broke and made nothing. I ran the table on him! That usually only happens with me on a very rare occasion( like on a full moon, after having sex with a redheaded virgin). But, what surprised me the most was the kind of shots I was making. This was no easy layout; I was making long shots, banks, running balls all the way down the rail, cutting balls into corners at angles far exceeding 90 degrees. I really think this cue has some magic in it! :) Now, if I can only think of a way to cover the $450 I put on the family credit card for it!

Sorry I have nothing to offer in the way of advice but I do think this is a really cool thread, even though I haven't played regular billiards in quite a while.

anyone know a US based store that sells inexpensive but reasonably well put together snooker cues? My father got ahold of a nice 10 foot snooker table a a few years ago but we have yet to find any snooker cues locally.
