Anyone have any DIY plans for a verticle stand for a portable band saw. I was looking at getting the portable band saw from Harbor Freight but I will need to make a verticle stand and making a new/larger material table in place of the guide bar. Here is a link to the saw I was looking at in case anyone might have any experience with it.

I have that same saw. What I did was to put a landscape timber into my Workmate standing vertical. I then used large zip ties to secure the saw to the part of the landscape timber above the table. I've cut probably 60 to 70 blades plus some steel for other projects and it works. Not ideal, but with my limited space, it works.

It would be nice to have a table, but I make do with the original one right now.

You will want to stop by Home Depot and buy some Milwaukee blades. The ones that come with that saw are junk. If you want better blades than the Milwaukee's, I buy Lennox blades off of ebay and they've lasted longer than any I've tried.

I like that idea. Its exactly what I need....cheap and functional:D. Thanks for the advice on the blades as well. How many TPI do you recommend?

I did this for like a extra 10$

If you're going to be using 1/8th or less thickness steel, I'd go with a 24 tpi. If you mainly use 1/8 or thicker steel, I'd get an 18 tpi blade.

I see the strapping, but what part of the portaband did you attach to? Got a side pic? I'm about to build a new bench and I'm thinking of building a stand for my HF portaband. I could then attach the 'stand' to the bench and free up a little more floor space!

I got mine to stand freely on the bench. The only problem with my approach is that the saw slides around when in use, so I have to push it up against a back stop.

I've seen a company that sells a table and stand for port a bands. They even sell a foot petal on off switch. I forgot the company but I'm sure it'd pop up on google. It wasn't really expensive either.

Your correct Numbers, the specifically state they will not fit Harbor Frieght saws. Thanks for the tip though Leethal, the pictures they have gave me some more good ideas. Thanks guys!

My pic above attached some heavy metal straps to the holes for the cover and then attached to the 2x4's which go into the studs. Very sturdy. The table part just made myself to be as big as I could get.

Here is the stand I made for the HF:

The set up is portable, so if you have limited bench space you just put it away. The metal brace is just mild steel, and it bolts in to the place where the HF handle is, using the handle bolt holes so you don't have to modify the saw at all, in case you need to take it back to the store.
