Pre-made Damascus or stainless flat stock?

Hey everyone I have been looking at making a bunch of kitchen knives for some friends of mine and I only have a coal forge right now so its really hard to make Damascus steel. I looked on amazon an found some flat stock Damascus for about $60. Is it worth spending the money on the flat stock possibly with cracks or is it better to get some stainless and work with that?

Unless you have a surface grinder, stick to the flat stock. Since its stainless, you'll need to send out for heat treat. Can't do stainless on a forge.
