Prescription safety glasses reviews?

I finally got around to seeing the eye doc, who said she was alarmed that I managed to pass the driving vision test here in NM. I'll be getting my first-ever eyeglasses soon, and hope to get some prescription safety glasses for the shop. If anyone can recommend online sellers/eyeglass styles (with hours of knife grinding in mind), I'd be grateful. Budget is always a factor, of course!

I've wore glasses for 25 years. I've wore prescription safety glasses at times, and I'm here to tell you they suck. I don't know if they make light weight plastic prescription safety glasses. Mine were always glass and my fairly week prescription (normally thin lenses) weighed so much when made into the thick safety glasses that they were PAINFUL to wear. Very heavy on your nose and ears. Aside from that, they still let metal shavings bounce into your eye.

When I need eye protection in the shop, beyond that provided by just my regular eye glasses (not recommending regular glasses for safety) I wear a full face shield over my regular glasses. That is a WAY more comfortable setup for me, and much better protection. The trick is just keeping the shield clean, and finding respirator that fits under the shield.

While these folks don't seem to carry safety glasses, I've been more than happy with their glasses for general (non-safety) wear. A set of decent frames with single lenses (non-bifocal) for $30 or so shipped.... www.zennioptical.com

the least expensive route might be to find fit over safety glasses or googles so you still have room for a respirator. several stihl dealers seller fitover safety glasses you might want to check those out.

I just use safetyglasses or faceshield over my prescription glasses.

If you forge, you should always use safetyglasses. Blocking particles and infrared radiation.

The wars in the desert have helped with this

there are several goggle type glasses that you put prescription inserts into, available online
I'd like to try some of those.

I get my forging glasses from Auralens. They make all sorts of other safety glasses, too. My regular shop glasses come from Costco.

I like the faceshield with my glasses, doesn't fog up on me like over the glasses eye protection does.

Face shield for me. Allow better overall vision and full face protection. I have the 3m air filter/face shield as well and use both religiously.

I have been wearing Titmus prescription safety glasses for over 15 years. very light weight and comfortable. I took off the side shields and wear them as my regular glasses. I paid about $200 for titanium frames with progressive bifocal lenses. here is a link http://www.titmus.com/titanium/uvexrx-products-titanium-main.html you need to shop to find best deal. locally the price went from $200 to over $500 for the same glasses.

I hate face shields, they are more trouble than they are worth. I'm in the workshop every day, all day and I can't go around in a face shield but I like to always have on eye protection. I also prefer real safety type glasses that offer better side protection than normal eye glasses. I also have a good set of Wiley shooting glasses with prescription inserts that I use in the shop, you might want to check those out, very comfortable to wear. 5.11 also makes some good ones too.
