prison shanks

does anybody know how prisoners in prison make shanks?

it would be fun to make one out of everyday materials and sharpen it out of unconventional materials just for a hobby.

so does anybody have any insight on interesting stuff like this?

grab something and rub it on something else until its sharp...

as i understand it (never been a prisoner...hope to never be) they often use things like spoons...

basically, it seems that they get whatever they can lay their hands on and rub it into a point on concrete or whatever they have handy that's abrasive.

From what I've been told Bed Frames are the most highly sought after as they are hard and reletivly high carbon. They fatigue a piece of the frame and then sharpen it on the concrete floor. wrap it in a piece of cloth (usaually a shirtsleeve) then insert it into their rectum, to pass inspection. This imparts ecoli to the mix. So even if you dont die right away, you will soon enough if it isnt caught in time. Immensly disgusting if you think about it. Now lets think of the worst possible scenario... a 350 pound sado masochistic psychopathic kali master in prison with a knife... and he thinks your pretty but is slightly peeved off after you rebuffed his advances...

they also like broken combs, tooth brushes, and believe it or not hardened toothpaste

I dont think your going to make any thing usefull besides stabbing tools.... they use...

--Mattress coil springs- sharpen and wrap a string handle
-Melted plastic food wrappers untill its hard and molded to a point
-Clip board- use the metal clip part, sharpen into a knife
-Tooth brushes - melted and sharpened
-Shavers- remove the razor from shavers and mold it into a toothbrush

Plexiglass is another favorite. Ground to sharp point, stab someone with it and pull to the side breaking it and usually no one can get a hold of the end to pull it out.
