Problems with a Seiko black monster

I have a problem with my new Seiko black monster. This may be a stupid question, but I'll ask anyway.

After setting my watch, I noticed that the seconds hand is actually counting about three seconds for every actual one second elapsed. Basically, after saying one one thousand, the old standby, the seconds hand has moved about three seconds. Running too fast. I usually set my watches a couple minutes fast, but right now, my watch is about 15 minutes fast, after setting it to 2-3 minutes fast this morning. That's after putting the watch on and realizing that it was an HOUR AND A HALF FAST.

What am I doing wrong here? It's a self winding watch, but that shouldn't have anything to do with the swift seconds hand. Any ideas? The crown is screwed down tight, should it be on the first click?

Before I take it to a watch jeweler at the mall, what are my options?

I don't know what to tell you other than a jeweler sounds like a good idea. I have a Black Monster that runs a few seconds slow a day.

It sounds as though it needs to be regulated. How old is it?

Brand new, just got it on Monday.

Esav, I just looked at a couple of threads on other forums about regulating time on a Seiko. I think a jeweler or watch repair shop would be the way to go ;).

Automatics need some time to break in but that is way way too far off.Sounds like you need an exchange.

Could me magnetized. It will cause them to run fast. See a Jeweler or send it back.

Go back to the store you bought it from to return it and get a new one. If it is magnetised you can try putting it next to a CRT TV then using the degauss function.

Sound like it needs to be demagnetized. An easy & quick fix. If you can't get it done, buy one of these. All you do is place the back of your watch on it (unopened), press and hold the button, and slowly move your watch your full arm span away from it. Finally, release the button. That should have taken ~15 seconds. Repeat this 1-2 times.

That's a cool trick, thanks for that. My orange monster runs about 10 minutes+ fast a month.

RevDevil: While this may help, a +20sec/day issue might be that it needs to be regulated. However, the demagnetizer is cheap but should last for years. So, you have nothing to lose in trying. WARNING: Do NOT use it on quartz movements...just manuals/autos.

Thanks for the added details. I always like to read and learn about watches. What I have read is that Seikos with this specific movement on the Monster and 5 series runs fast across the board. My Citizen Ecodrive diver has always been spot on. It was a ittle fast at the end of the month though, about 65 econds. Amazing watch that is and for a terrific price too. The regulation you mention, should be done at a jewler?
