Oh no, your 9 has a chip in the blade near the handle, looks to be the size of a man’s finger, better send it back to Ka-Bar!
You can also use nail polish as a resist and create cool patterns or lettering and such, and after the etch, clean it off with acetone.

The lighting isn't great, but this is with salt and vinegar
On that BK9, I just splashed the nail polish on and wiped it down with muriatic acid.
