I great friend and customer ordered this big leuku as a user for big game processing (and clear cutting forests):D
He's a huge guy, 6' 8" with matching hands which worked well with such a weighty long blade.
The handle is quite long which balanced the blade perfectly, the feel is fast.
I have to say, the blade is amazing, sharp beyond belief, interesting profile but a serious pain in the butt to fit to the handle.
The tang needed a couple of hours work to make a perfect fit with the Mammoth ivory at the front.
I was going to make him a traditional leuku sheath but he doesn't like the dangler style so we went with a basic tank of a pouch sheath.
The handle is Walrus ivory which has a wonderful feel in the hand and some neat animal chews that my friend wanted to keep. This meant hand shaping the handle pieces to the contours of the tusk :o Anyway,it's finally in the hand of it's happy owner and to be honest, i'm happy to see the end of the project :D
From front to back of the handle, Mammoth, fiber spacer, a section of the Walrus, spacer, a piece of curly Birch, Walrus with the butt inlayed with Mammoth.

Best regards

I've several leuku; Jarvenpaa, Helle, Wood Jewel, etc. Great camp knives for heavy duty work. You've made a real worker there. Nice looking knife.

Your work is spectacular Robin. That is a really beautiful knife and I think the sheath looks great as well. Nicely done!:thumbup:
Thanks for showing this here.

Fantastic work, Robin! A fine combination of beautiful and practical.

I knew it would spectacular but  !!! You really have a flair for making these look primitive, Robin!! Love your style:thumbup::thumbup:

Amazing work Pipeman, thank you for sharing. I own one of Antti's Leukus and they are very impressive knives, both in size and sharpness! Hope your friend will use the leuku.

Best,

Phil

My first thought. Great looking knife, Robin!

Thanks Charlie and Gary. The primitive thing is usually accomplished with many layers of Fiebings leather dye.
:D Maybe the lack of it was my problem, cause this knife caused me grief :D I broke more ivory than I care to think about and
I never start with a plan, I'm usually inspired by a hunk of wood or bone from the start, then build the knife around it.
I try never to take orders. I need to remember that in the future ;-)))

Hello John
The blade is 9 1/4 tip to tang and the handle is about 5 1/4 inches.

Beautiful work Robin! The knife turned out fantastic even though you were pulling your hair out each time the Ivory cracked. :D

The sheath is a work of art also.

Thanks Mark. The sheath is a solid working sheath, the one I had planned was a work of art, but thats the piece of Walrus ivory that shattered :( I think I can get a small handle out of the pieces. If Not, a bunch of tiny Seals and Bears :D

Best regards

Robin
