Looking for the light duty purple loctite! Is there a knife makers supply that carries it? I can get blue and red all over town, but the purple is not to be found. I need it for some small knife pivot and handle screws. Has anyone used the blue loctite for small screws? I hate to screw up good knives!! :)
Thanks,
Dave

The blue should work just fine for ya, its what most manufactures use from the factory anyway.

The blue is for screws 1/4" to 3/4". Go for the service removable pink/purple number 222 or 222MS. Check the use by date on the bottle if you find it in a store. The bottle is red and has a small pink label with Threadlocker written in it. Part Number 22221 is on the bottle. This is for screws up to 1/4"
I had ordered mine from McMaster-Carr or MSC Supply
The following is off the Loctite site re: The Blue

Every benchmade, kershaw, or spyderco that I have ever purchased that had loctite had the 'blue' version, if its good enough for the manufacture its good enough for me. Use what you want, its your knives.

PS all loctite now comes in a blue container with a color coded label indicating the strength.

USA knife maker has Loctite 222MS - I don't know what the difference is between 222 and 222MS though. The descriptions seem to be the same except that the MS version is for "military applications"..

You are close.

The "MS" denotation means that you can obtain a cert to Mil-S-46163 revision A Type II Grade M for any batch with the MS denotation. That means that the QC testing for the batch included all the QC tests listed in the MIL spec.

222 (sans MS) is the same formulation and the stated performance is the same, but each batch is not tested with all the tests required by the MIL spec.

Out of sheer coincidence I just logged on to search for what loctite is recommended for fastening the clip on my Bradley Alias II, then I found this thread. ;) When I sent my knife to BM for their LifeSharp service, it came back with the clip attached to the opposite end (tip-down carry) than the way I sent it in (tip-up carry). I wonder why they did this; not trying to get off topic.

Related to this thread, all I have is some green loctite in the garage for automotive applications. I take it from the advice thus far that I shouldn't use the green I have?

Thanks all for your help. I just ordered a bottle from USA knifemakers supply.
Thanks,
Dave

I found the purple loctite at my local Harley Davidson dealership. The ubiquitous blue and red were there as well. Seems to be a regularly stocked item.
