Good Day all

I have some wonderful scales I bought to make grips for 1911's and want to use some of it to scale some knife blanks. The problem is, I am having trouble finding quality knife blanks.

I use knifeKits.com for holster molds and parts but most of their offerings in knife blanks are 420 or AUS8.. I am not looking to argue the merits of either but prefer a well hardened 1095, L6, W2. 02 or other good ol rusty steel. Would consider some of the quality stainless steels but I am having a devil of a time finding any.

If you know of someone or someplace I can see some quality knife blanks I would greatly appreciate a link. My goole Fu got me as close to a couple of forges from Eastern Europe listing on Etsy. US made would be a plus but I dont mind ordering from out of the country.

Looking to complete a EDC fixed for myself and ???

Thank you in advance for any help!! Glad to see this place is still around!!

Larin blanks.
These are largely high-carbon, good steel, Scandinavian knife blanks. I have an awesome tiny one that I got from Knives of the North.

Jantz used to sell a green river sheep skinner that I really liked, maybe they still do. It’s flat ground and very slicey, had it 10 years and still a favorite.

Like catspa I would suggest the Green River / Dexter Russel blanks. I own one of the fishing/hunting knives and love it

Depending on your budget, you could reach out to a knife maker here. Perhaps someone could supply you with exactly the design you want sans handle...

Thank you everyone!!!! Some stuff to check out afterall. I will report back with any decisions and of course a project report.

As another suggestion my Grimalkin fixed blades are 1095 and designed to be compatible with off-the-shelf handle hardware (10-24 machine screws and self-clinching fasteners.)

Fourtytwoblades Grimalkin makes a nice knife. I have put handles on some of them.

Have a blade coming in from Thompson. Cant wait. I actually wanted to pick up a couple from his site but showed some discipline and will order a couple more after I see how this guy comes out. Hoping to fashion up a nice little EDC with Desert iron wood scales and my own pocket sheath.

Is that the 5” one? I looked hard at it when I bought mine, but decided if I didn’t like the skinner shape, I could grind the spine straight and maybe swedge it.

Jantz doesn’t have it listed on their site anymore, which is too bad. Still available at Track of the Wolf, Crazycrow, Nantahala, and other places. Also in a 6” version.

Boriqua, can’t wait to see what you do with your Thompson.
