I'm fairly certain that we all know and agree that the quality of the HT is everything in knife steels. I am curious, do we know anything about how well Spyderco's s30v is dialed in?

This is merely a curiosity of mine. ..

Spyderco seems to take steel performance very seriously and one of the main brands that really pays attention to and has high standards for HT. Their owner is a steel junky.

Just one example of how much they take it seriously is how the Tenacious has been requested to get an s30v upgrade for years but they won't do it because the China maker cannot meet their standards to HT'ing the steel. Seems they won't just pump out a product because it's requested just to make a fast buck, and would require it to perform.

I have a few of theirs with S30V. They get what I call sticky sharp. They take a nice edge and hold it well for my uses.

Have had a few in S30V by Spyderco. PM2, Manix XL, Military. I like it better than some other S30V I've had, takes a nice keen edge and holds it.

That's a great story and the kind of info i was hoping to find. While this isn't the most thought provoking thread ever, it's already been a tremendously helpful read. Thanks to all.

My Vallotons s30v has been excellent. I know it was made in Taichung Taiwan but I know they seem to have an excellent reputation for getting things right. My GB with its m4 sold me on getting it and I've been more than satisfied with it and would recommend them highly.

The quality of the products coming out of their Taichung plant never ceases to amaze me. The fit and finish of every knife I've handled out of there is top notch. Those who buy USA only are really missing out (though I do respect the sentiment of only buying USA)

I only have a Swick 4, Military, Para 2 in s30v. Had an older Native in it as well. My current Native is s35v.

Spyderco's s30v is just fine. Very comparable to the other manufacture's I have had in the past. And it is easily my favorite steel. Perfect for my uses.

I've had my Fluted Titanium Military since August. It's my main at home EDC. So a lot of use and it's factory edge is still razor sharp.

In my experience, Spydercos S30V is top notch. It doesn't make me wish I spent more on steel. I can use it for a very long time, it sharpens relatively quickly, and it takes a fantastic edge. All while being very rust resistant! Truly a fantastic choice for knife steel. I really chased the whole super steel phenomenon, but S30V is probably one of the best steels for the money! I don't feel like I need a better steel at any time while carrying a Spyderco with S30V.

I can sharpen the S30V to a hair popping edge and use it for a good month or two without feeling like I need to sharpen it. I don't use my knife a ton, but it does get used.

I agree with all this.

Thanks everyone. I just finished up putting a polished edge on my PM2 and it is indeed very sticky. Sharpened up beautifully.
