I spent days on candlepower forums looking for a new flashlight. My last major purchase was a Surefire 6P a few years back and a Fenix E01 for my EDC.

My E01 is my "low output / long runtime" light that uses common batteries (AAA) and is fine for navigating the house at night and other close up tasks, and I was planning on finding something that could compliment the E01 by giving me more throw and power even at the expense of shorter runtime, yet small enough I could always carry it.

I finally settled on the Quark mini 123 -- I was willing to go with CR123 batteries because I already use them in my surefire and for their size they'll give me a longer runtime on high. Once I got it in the mail I was blown away though... this thing on high is as bright as my surefire 6P with P61 incandescant bulb, with very similar sized hotspot and throw (and larger spill). I basically had a pocket sized 6P that lasted way longer (1.2 hours on high versus ~25 minutes).

It has 3 main modes (low, which is lower than my Fenix E01, medium and high) and various fun strobe modes that you can access yet they don't get in the way.

It's a keychain light and so it's very small (shorter than my Fenix E01 but fatter), but I just carry it in my pocket... so for that reason I'm thinking about upgrading to the Quark Tactical with clicky switch since an extra fraction of length isn't a big deal.

My only reservation was that I never had a light with a bunch of different modes and with a user interface where you have to twist in certain combinations to get certain outputs. I would have been just as pleased with this light even if it only had one mode (either medium or high) but I was able to get used to the user interface pretty quickly and now I don't mind it.

Now I have an excuse to upgrade my 6P because now it's just not pulling it's weight anymore! I'm thinking about a Malkoff M60 drop in replacement :D

I own a bunch of 4sevens lights: two or three Preons (1 and 2 cell), a couple of 123x2s (tactical and normal) in neutral white, and a 123 Tactical as my EDC.

I've stopped carrying the 123 because I can't trust it. The output is good, it's small, the clip works OK (I lost one to a seat snag)... but it doesn't always turn on when I hit the button. Tightening the switch and tail cap (the former requires tools) often helps, but not for long. Sometimes a shake or two will fix things for the moment. Ultimately, though, I have lost trust in the light.

Stick to the twisty interface, or pick something else for EDC. (I'm happy with the Quarks for bag/car/house use, just not my pocket carry.)

Me, I bought a Surefire LX2, which is completely reliable. I'm planning to get an HDS Ra, which should be much more pocketable but retain the reliability I want.

The mini 123 is great little light.I hang it off my keyring and just forget about it.Unbelievably handy and phenomenal battery life.I carry the quark AA in my pocket and a preon in the shirt or jacket pocket.I own over a dozen Quarks in total and never had a problem with any.The preons and the titanium range are very sexy

I have the Quark Mini AA. It's awesome! Very light and easy to carry. I believe it only weighs like .5oz or something without a battery. I do still reach for my Fenix PD20 as my EDC light just because it offers so much light in a small package with a pocket clip that buries the light completely in my pocket. My mini AA does seem to have a greenish tint to it.

Here's a pic of my Mini AA

I do have the 123 Mini in titanium and it is an awesome little flashlight, it's small and very nice to handle. imho the perfect EDC

I have both Minis as well. Burn, get yourself a couple of rechargeable CR123 for "free" runtime. Good stuff.

Thanks for the review. I'm looking for a small flashlight that's about the size of my Fenix E01, but gives more light. It seems this one is a great option.
