Hi , I recently bought a Gator fixed blade 420HC drop point , although it’s new it is an older one ( old logo , grey box ). Overall I’m pleased with it as I really like the handle on my folding version. The only problem I have is the gap at the side of the blade where it goes into the handle. The handle is solid and not loose but I’m wondering if this is common on them and effects of water getting in over a period of time.

it is common with the overmolding setup these are made with. will take a very long time to rust through 420hc enough to reduce its structural strength. I got old carbon steel knives from the 50s that are pitted and heavily rusted under pinned scales that are still solid. sealing those gaps could trap humidity and moisture in any gap ya cant see and create more issues than leaving it as is. that's my opinion sure other have different views on this.

personally, I wouldn't worry about it and just use it.....but that's me.

Thanks , I did think about sealing the gap but what you said about trapping moisture makes perfect sense so I think I’ll leave be and just make sure I dry it and store it as best I can
