Question about Izula handles

Hi there!

I've just ordered my first, but definitely not last ESEE.
It is an Izula II with the kit. My question would be about the scales, because I plan to wear this knife in my front pocket maybe without the scales. I've read many times that it's not recommended to take the scales off....why?

Is there any obvious reason for this?

Btw, I1m really happy to join this greoup here, I like this ESEE atmosphere :)

Can't wait to get this little sucker, and put him through his paces ;)

the reason is b/c people who take them off, when reinstalling the scales overtighten the screws and split the barrel nut.... everyone applies to much torque...alittle loc-tight and snug it up and your go to go

I wear the knife in my front pocket and leave the scales on.

If you don't use the 'clip attachment' and just put it in your pocket, you won't even notice it.

If you do use the 'clip attachment', put the metal clip outside your pocket and the plastic sheath inside your pocket. It is only sometimes noticeable if it goes out of position and I sit down in my car, but it makes the handle ride parallel to my body. The only time anyone sees it is if my shirt isn't long enough to cover my pocket or I raise my arms up.

You will want to keep the handles on the Izula II - they are pretty awesome. It is a great fixed blade pocket EDC knife.

The non-PC translation is….

“Hey dumbass, you can take the scales off, but if you overtighten them putting them back on or strip them out from constantly taking them on and off you will be ridiculed by all of the ESEE community when you want free replacements.”

Jeff and Mike sent out more than a couple sets of replacement screws because guys were constantly taking them off and on or were using a 3-foot cheater bar to tighten a small screw and stripping them out.

One Izula owner would wash the blood off by soaking in hot soapy water. When he did take off the scales, he realized how much water had been getting inside. One the Izula I scales, there is a glued on liner to help keep them in place, the glue had also deteriorated.
Lessons we've learned..
Don't overtighten your screws and don't soak and in hot water.
Other ESEE's have solid tangs, and yet one trip through the dishwasher can delaminate the micarta.

I just got the clip today for my II, and I have to say, I like the new carry option.
Easy, quick access clipped backwards on My front pocket. Hides pretty well too.

I had to buy two of these things. I keep one wraped, just because I just like the look and feel of the paracord. And another with the scales that came with it, they are just a awsome fit, finish, and feel. I love to whittle with these scales on, You can go a long time before your hand gets tired.

Thansk guys, I'm convinced.
I feel the same as Highwaychild, 'cause I like the paracord handles as well....

hc - I'm glad you like it! Super easy, quick access with good concealability.

v460t - I think you'll find the same thing as myself and HC, the inside front pocket, clip outside setup is a great way to carry the Izula II. It is an EDC thing for me and I rarely notice it. I also can slip my hands into the pocket to grab things.
