Question about old seal pup sheath

Does anyone know if this style of sheath is able to unbutton at the belt loop? It looks like it has buttons but I’ve been unable to unbutton it.

I believe one of the older tigersharks I had did have a sheath that unsnapped like that. I'm not totally sure though so go easy on it. Seems like you should be able to tell by looking at it.

Thanks. Yeah, they do look like snaps but if they are then they require a lot of force to undo.

Update: they are snaps. Just takes a little force to undo. I used a round bit driver to pry.
