Question about quality of Glock 78 field knife

Hi everyone,
I recently purchased Glock 78 Field knife for a high price tag since that was the only one that shipped to Canada without problems.
But when I opened the package, I noticed that the tip of the blade is blunt. Knife is sharp but the tip looks like as if someone stabbed it to something hard. It's that rounded.

Anyone have similar experience with Glock quality? Or did I get a lemon?

I'd post a picture but I don't know how to on this forum.....

I've only dealt with military surplus Glock knives (can be had for a song in Europe) but I wouldn't worry too much. It's spring steel and will sharpen up faster than you can say "Fingerspritzengefühl".

I've had one for years. Nowadays it's mainly used to open Champagne but it does the trick.

If the tip is squashed as if it literally was flattened by stabbing into something hard after the blade was sharpened you got a lemon or a used knife. If the profile of the blade looks odd and the grinds make the tip look blunt you might have just a regular Glock knife. I went through half a dozen of these same knives looking for one that had a more pointed tip but they were all blunt nosed. Still bought one since they were only about $11USD new.

Much respect for their line of pistols and E-tools.....their knives less so.

Hi . i got got mine about 3 months ago and it come with a blunted tip . i was warned by a couple of the forum members that I would .i gave it a good sharpening an its been a great knife .so sharpen it and enjoy it ;)

hey y'all,

I took a picture but i odn't know how to post it here, so i'll describe it...
it's like someone stabbed it to something hard (blunting it), then using a sharpener rounded the tip make an edge... but i doubt it'll be an effective stabber (considering its origin as a bayonet, that's a big bummer).

From the sound of it, this seems like a common thing with Glock knives?

I've contacted the person on amazon i bought from. they told me to ship it back and they'll exchange it. hopefully i can get an exchanged one for better!

These knives were made for the many mundane tasks a soldier in the field must do and then if need be a fighting stabbing weapon.

I'm sure with a proper sharpening it will do all of those field tasks like opening crates, digging tent spike holes, Cutting through roots for a MG placement, cutting rope & webbing and if need be I am sure you could stab with it just fine in the heat of battle.

yea i know but considering how KABAR makes their soldier/marine utility knives (which came very nice) I was disappointed... mainly because it costed me as much as Kabar (~$70 CDN)!
if the shipping doesn't work or they give me another "lemon" i'll give up and spend my weekend on my sharpening stone (old style, no machines)

The Glock Field Knife is just that: not a bayonet nor a fighting knife nor even a survival knife. My friends who did their national service say they usually arrive blunt when new and that they have to learn sharpening themselves (which is a good skill, well done Austrian army). The steel is very mild because, well, the most common utility for them is apparently breaking open wooden crates and other field chores. You can get a decent edge on the things but a KaBar it is not.

The Glock knife was never rated as a good one like their pistol is. My truck knife is a BK7 , excellent. The Glock shovel is excellent too.

thanks for the replies y'all.

i'm getting impression that what I got was not actually a lemon but a normal manufactured product from Glock.... which I kinda feel is a shame (considering the reputation of their pistols).
Being Canadian, the purchase was larger than KABAR but I guess i'll live with it....

now i'm gonna have to decide whether to send it back and try to get an exchange for a "better" one from the store from amazon... or just deal with the thing and sharpen the blade to my specifications....
